Taylor Swift Slams Damon Albarn Over 'Damaging' Songwriting Claim
971 views • Jan 25, 2022 • Taylor Swift is defending her artistry after musician Damon Albarn claimed she "doesn't write her own songs." The "Message in a Bottle" songstress tweeted her response to the Blur frontman's claim, which he made during a Los Angeles Times interview. She wrote in part, "Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don't have to like my songs but it's really f***ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW." Damon later tweeted that he apologized "unreservedly and unconditionally."
Following Damon Albarn‘s Los Angeles Times interview, in which he claimed that Swift “doesn’t write her own songs,” a number of celebrities have come to her defense.
Her Folklore and Evermore collaborators, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, were quick to jump on Twitter to comment on how they’re the ones who have actually seen Swift’s songwriting process firsthand — not Albarn.
“i’ve never met damon albarn and he’s never been to my studio but apparently he knows more than the rest of us about all those songs taylor writes and brings in. herb,” Antonoff tweeted on Monday (Jan. 24).
“Not sure why you @damonalbarn would try to discredit Taylor’s brilliant songwriting but as someone who has gotten to press record around her …” Dessner mirrored. “Your statements couldn’t be further from the truth…you’re obviously completely clueless as to her actual writing and work process.”

Taylor Swift Fires Back At Damon Albarn For Songwriting Diss! 2,270 views • Jan 26, 2022 • Taylor Swift had a few words for fellow musician Damon Albarn after an interview went viral in which he claimed she doesn’t write her own songs.
Taylor Swift has criticised Damon Albarn, lead singer of Blur and later of Gorillaz, after he said that she doesn't write her own music.
Talking to the LA Times, Albarn replied to the interviewer calling Swift "an excellent songwriter" by stating "she doesn't write her own songs".
Swift responded on Twitter: "I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this."
"I write all of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and so damaging."
Albarn said in the interview that he prefers Billie Eilish, who he called a "really interesting songwriter".
"I'm more attracted to that than to Taylor Swift. It's just darker - less endlessly upbeat. Way more minor and odd. I think she's exceptional."
Eilish co-writes her songs with her brother, producer Finneas.
When the interviewer said that Swift co-writes her music, Albarn responded: "That doesn't count. I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing. I'm not hating on anybody, I'm just saying there's a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes."
There was a swift backlash on Twitter, including from producer Jack Antonoff, who has worked with Swift extensively.

Monday night at Los Angeles’s Walt Disney Hall, during a solo concert showcasing his new orchestral solo album The Nearer the Mountain, More Pure the Stream Flows, Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn addressed recent his controversial criticism of Taylor Swift.
The Britpop star’s claim in a Los Angeles Times interview — that the three-time Album of the Year Grammy-winner “doesn’t write her own songs” — had gone viral earlier in the day, after Swift put Albarn on blast, furiously tweeting, for her nearly 90 million followers to see, that his comments were “damaging” and “f***ed up.”
Onstage at Disney Hall, Albarn wryly told the audience that veteran journalist Mikael Wood, who wrote the L.A. Times piece, “cast me into the social media abyss.” It was in fact Wood that brought up Swift during the Times interview, but only to counter Albarn’s grumpy argument that most current-day pop artists rely too much on “sound and attitude” rather than on old-fashioned songcraft. It’s highly unlikely that Wood was the actual L.A. Times staffer who isolated Albarn’s anti-Swift remarks in an eyebrow-raising post on the newspaper’s official Twitter account — a tweet that caught Swift’s attention and prompted her indignant response.
On Monday afternoon, Swift angrily tweeted Albarn: “@damonalbarn I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f***ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW … PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering.”
