8,065 views Nov 3, 2022 This week the public Inquiry into the Manchester Arena bombing that killed 22 people in May 2017 will publish a report examining the response of the emergency services. The Manchester Arena has described the atrocity as an incident which 'changed the landscape of security at large events' for the entire industry. Since then the venue has introduced a raft of new security measures, including one new system provided by an American company called Evolv which uses AI weapons scanners to spot concealed weapons. The company claims it has the ability to find ‘all weapons’, but a Newsnight investigation reveals evidence that the company has publicly overhyped this technology, which may not always be able to detect some weapons. James Clayton reports.

Mayors from across northern England say they've had positive talks with the Transport Secretary over the chaos in the region's rail services, but they're now calling for concrete action to improve things. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe) The mayors said the 'absolute bare minimum' of levelling up was being able to get to work and college on time but the rail chaos meant that millions of northerners couldn't even guarantee that.
