A Russian man who became famous on the video app TikTok collapsed shortly after being handed a summons. The man appears to have lost consciousness, but his condition is reportedly not serious. The man had posted videos on social media criticizing Russia's unilateral annexation of Crimea.
Russia, which continues to invade Ukraine, declared a "partial mobilization order" in September last year. There was a rush of people trying to avoid the convocation. In July of this year, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would raise the upper age limit for military conscription from the current 27 to 30, and would prohibit soldiers from leaving the country after their convocation date. It is expected to go into effect on January 1 next year after it is signed by President Vladimir Putin.
Popular Russian TikToker "Xolidayboy" (real name Ivan Minaev) was handed a summons at an airport in southern Russia on the 6th.
Shortly afterwards, Minaev appeared to pass out on stage at an event in the southern city of Stavropol.
He was taken to a hospital, but his condition is reportedly not serious.
Russian singer and TikToker Ivan Minaev (better known by the stage name Xolidayboy), who was recently accused by the head of the censorship lobbying group Safe Internet League of making “pro-Ukrainian statements,” was served a military summons on Monday at the airport in the town of Mineralnye Vody, where he had traveled as part of a concert tour, multiple Russian Telegram channels reported.
Video footage published by the channels Baza and Ostorozhno, Novosti, show a man in civilian clothing speaking to the Internet celebrity while police officers stand nearby. According to Ostorozhno, Novosti, Minaev signed an acknowledgement that he had received the summons.
In October, Safe Internet League head Ekaterina Mizulina wrote on Telegram that she was receiving “many angry letters about the concert tour of someone called Xolidayboy” because “pro-Ukrainian statements had been found” on the singer’s social media accounts. “I’ll send the materials to law enforcement and request that they evaluate his statements,” she concluded, adding that “people throughout the country are demanding his concert be cancelled.”
A representative of Minaeva told the Telegram channel Shot that he plans to sue Mizulina for reputational damage.
