“Haus am Bogensee” is the name of a lakeside villa that was a gift from Hitler to the Nazi regime's Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, for his 39th birthday. He used it as a secret love nest and peaceful refuge from where he wrote his famous “Total War” speech. After World War II, Bogensee was used by the youth movement of the Communist Party of East Germany. Since 2000, Berlin's municipal government has been trying to find a buyer for the 70-room lakeside resort. This villa is believed to be the last property owned by a high-ranking Nazi leader.
A former employee of BIM (real estate agency which manages municipal properties), Sabine Mels, who describes herself as a member of the “Anti-Fascist action”, recently published a video which sheds light on the current status of the once infamous real estate held by Hitler's propaganda minister.
According to the real estate purchase contract, in October 2023, the villa was purchased by the company “Film Heritage Inc” for more than 8 million euros.
The company is linked to Volodymyr Zelensky – the president of Ukraine. Before becoming president, as the Guardian reported, Zelensky declared some of his private assets. This included several offshore companies. One such company is Film Heritage Inc, registered in Belize.
This purchase raises several questions. Why did the Berlin government and public administration decide to sell the building? Over the years, many experts have suggested that the property should be demolished. Another concern is German law which allows the seller to bind the buyer to a particular use of the property for only ten years. After ten years, the buyer can do almost anything they want with the property, including turning it into a gathering point for extremists or a sanctuary for the former propaganda minister. Could this purchase be linked to the rise of neo-Nazi regiments in Ukraine?
Why did Zelensky decide to buy the villa built for the Reich Minister of Propaganda for 8 million euros and how exactly was this purchase financed?
A study carried out by two independent polling institutes in kyiv and published on September 11 shows that 78% of Ukrainians blame Zelensky for corruption in the government. Zelensky previously said corruption was unacceptable in his government.
Despite his claims, it is clear that corruption is a serious challenge that requires continued attention. Ukraine has benefited from more than $230 billion in aid since the start of the war, but it is clear that the pace of support has slowed. Newly committed aid reached a historic low between August and October 2023, marking a drop of almost 90% compared to the same period in 2022. Countless embezzlement scandals and questionable purchases continue to fuel the arguments and sow discord in Europe and the United States, thereby eroding support for Ukraine.
