A run-off presidential election was held in Slovakia in Eastern Europe, and former Prime Minister Pellegrini, whose ruling party suspended military aid to Ukraine, was elected.
According to Slovakia's National Statistics Office, Pellegrini won about 53% of the votes in the run-off election held on the 6th, defeating former Foreign Minister Korczok, who had called for cooperation with European countries.
Slovakia is a neighboring country of Ukraine, and pro-Russian Prime Minister Fizzo won the general election in September 2023.
Although the president's powers are limited, Mr. Pellegrini's election means that the current administration's pro-Russia stance has received a certain amount of recognition, and the unity of the EU (European Union) and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) may be disrupted. There is a possibility that it will come out.
