On Wednesday, figure skating Challenge Cup Day 2 was held in The Hague of the Netherlands for Advanced Novice girls. Sara Honda (11 = Kyoto Daigo FSC), following the short program (SP) of the previous day (79.22 points), won the first victory in the international competition at a total of 124.07 points. Among the unfamiliar international rules for the Novice class, Honda won without making major mistakes and she made one step closer to her big sister. Japanese teenager Rika Kihira continued her unbeaten international run on Sunday when she came from behind to win the Challenge Cup in the Netherlands. The 16-year-old, who is nearing the end of her international senior debut season, has now won six straight international tournaments including the ISU Grand Prix Final and this month's Four Continents Championship. The competition in The Hague is a prelude to next month's world championships at Saitama Super Arena outside Tokyo that will run from March 20 to March 24. "That was about as good a program as I was capable of at this time," Kihira said. "I was determined to win it in my free skate." "I want to perform at the worlds in both the short program and free skate with a determination like I had today," she added.
