Sen. Rand Paul could force a vote on the Senate floor that would bring Hunter Biden or other White House-favored impeachment witnesses to an impeachment trial. Paul said on Thursday he’s considering forcing votes on motions in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial allowing Trump to bring his own witnesses. The Kentucky senator and close Trump ally has urged Congress to call Hunter Biden as a witness for his work at a Ukrainian energy company. The House’s impeachment inquiry is investigating whether the president abused his power when he pressured Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter in exchange for military aid. Though Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) urged Republicans on Wednesday to limit divisive votes to bring in witnesses, senators believe they will be able to offer their own amendments on the chamber’s impeachment resolution. Some Republicans also want the Senate to call the whistleblower.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) joins Meet The Press for an exclusive interview to talk about the White House’s war powers amid escalating Iran tensions. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on Sunday he thinks it is time for lawmakers to revisit ongoing conflicts the U.S. is engaged in, saying he doesn't think Congress meant to “bind another generation” when it authorized the war against Iraq in 2002. “We really need to have a debate about whether we should still be in Iraq or in Afghanistan,” Paul said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “There needs to be authorization from Congress.” He was responding to a question from host Chuck Todd about the briefing that members of Congress received last week about President Donald Trump’s rationale for killing a top Iranian commander, Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, on Jan. 3. Paul said the explanations provided by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about an imminent threat from Iran were not entirely convincing. “He thinks he can square the circle, but to me it seems pretty inconsistent,” Paul said of Pompeo. British U.N. Ambassador Karen Pierce on Iran, Syria and the push for diplomacy. The senator, who has often stood apart from his fellow Republicans on foreign policy, said the whole situation raised larger issues. “To me, there’s a bigger question, too, though,” he told Todd. “This is what really infuriated me about the briefing. … They maintain both in private and in public that a vote by Congress in 2003 or 2002 to go after Saddam Hussein was a vote that now allows them to still be in Iraq and do whatever they want, including killing a foreign general from Iran.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) sent a public warning shot on Monday night, saying that if Republicans support Democrats' impeachment witness requests, then he will force votes during the trial on calling witnesses conservatives want to hear from.
"My colleagues can’t have it both ways. Calling for some, while blocking others," Paul tweeted, referencing a Politico report on a similar private warning he gave his GOP colleagues against supporting Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer's (D-N.Y.) request that former national security adviser John Bolton testify.
"If we are going to give a platform to witnesses the Dems demand, I look forward to forcing votes to call Hunter Biden and many more!" Paul continued.
Paul's public warning comes as Senate Republicans are privately haggling over the rules resolution for President Trump's impeachment trial.

Republican lawmaker reacts to growing violence on 'The Story.' #FoxNews
A suspicious package containing white powder was sent to the home of Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., his office said Monday. Investigators later determined the substance was not hazardous, a law-enforcement source told NBC News.
"I take these threats immensely seriously. As a repeated target of violence, it is reprehensible that Twitter allows C-list celebrities to encourage violence against me and my family," Paul tweeted.
The suspicious package, which was sent to his Kentucky home, contained a white powder, his office told NBC News. The envelope examined for harmful substances and investigated by the FBI and Capitol Police.
The law enforcement source said initial testing of the substance determined it was not dangerous. In a statement, the Capitol Police said that as a precaution, the substance is being take to a lab "for further testing."
“This is an open investigation,” the statement said.
It was not immediately known whether Paul was in Kentucky when the package arrived. His wife Kelley Paul, tweeted that "I got the death threat letter and called the FBI."
Both she and her husband blamed pop singer Richard Marx for "inciting violence" against him.
Marx had tweeted Sunday that he wanted to thank Rene Boucher, who was arrested and charged with assaulting Paul in 2017 after getting enraged about yard waste that he alleged was being dumped in his yard near the property line.
