Fans of rising country sensation Jamie Lynn Spears will be very happy about the release of her new EP, "The Journey," today (May 27). As she shares a special playlist of video clips in which she explains the stories behind the songs, the singer tells Billboard says she's ready to give more to the the listeners who have been waiting a while for the music. "For the past few years, I've been writing, working with different people, demoing songs, and really trying to figure out what the exact sound I wanted to put out there," Spears says. "My first exposure as an artist is really important. My fans have been so supportive, and have been so patient for me to get the music to them. They have heard all the YouTube clips, and my live shows, but they deserve to have something they can listen to in the car." The EP, which can be purchased via iTunes, was led by the release of her debut single, "How Could I Want More," last fall. Spears says the song, which is about her husband, is very personal to her. "The single is the most personal thing I have ever put out. I wrote it about four years ago. I was in a vulnerable place and at a vulnerable moment. It's definitely one of the most personal songs and has been really well-received by my fans – and even by people who weren't familiar with my music. I think that being that personal and being that honest really translated well to the song." "Everyone I've talked to says 'Big Bad World' is their song. To me, I love it. You never know what song people are going to grab on to, but people have consistently grabbed on to it. We were talking about how lonely I was feeling, and really wanted something familiar. It was a cold day in Nashville. I was missing home. Being the genius that he is, Chris put that emotion in such a way, and that line came from that." Since the release of her single, it's been a whirlwind for Jamie Lynn. The former "Zoey 101" star opened several dates for Alan Jackson this spring, which she said were a highlight. "That was a dream come true. I've always been a huge Alan Jackson fan. My daddy and I danced to one of his songs at my wedding. Being able to be in the same room with him -- much less the same stage -- was an honor. I was nervous as you can imagine, but I was so honored to be considered to sing in front of the same fans that he has."

Spears, making an appearance at this week's CMA Music Fest in Nashville, understands why some people might be a little puzzled — the little sister of one of the world's biggest pop star's singing country? But Spears says once people get a chance to listen to her, they understand it. "It gives me more of a reason to prove that I love what I am doing and make them believe in me," Spears said. The former teen star of "Zoey 101" has been working behind the scenes in Nashville learning the craft of songwriting. She's already got a music video and put out an EP called "The Journey" on iTunes with five new songs. Even without a record label, her EP debuted at No. 193 on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week and came in at No. 24 on the Country Albums chart. She's increasingly doing more live performances, including this week's festival and the Taste of Country festival later in June in New York State. Festivals like the CMA Fest are critical starting points for new artists trying to break out on the smaller stages and grab the attention of both music industry folks and fans alike. Spears left acting after announcing that she was pregnant at the age of 16, but now 23, a mom and recently married, she says she knows singing is her passion. "It felt good to be able to tell these stories and be able to sing them, make them universal," Spears said. "... I feel like I have really been able to find who I was as an artist." The two sisters sang together on a song for Britney's album, "Britney Jean," and the younger Spears isn't ruling out another duet in the future. Jamie Lynn says she gets advice and inspiration from her older sister, but she's also gotten a good compliment from Britney. "She thinks it's brave that I am out there really laying it on the line with some of my lyrics," Spears said. "So I think that we do influence each other just as far as the craft goes even though it is two completely different sounds."

Jamie Lynn Spears posted a video of her five-year-old, Maddie Briann, dancing around to Iggy Azalea’s No. 1 hit Fancy, and she’s adorable! However, people have been raising hell over the fact that Jamie Lynn let her daughter listen to the non-radio version of the song which contains some stuff that little kids probably shouldn’t hear. http://instagram.com/p/oRxeaLEAmv But to all of those naysayers, we challenge you: what about Sophia Grace and Rosie?! They became famous for singing Nicki Minaj lyrics, which could be seen as more offensive than Iggy’s! Though, we do wish Iggy had chosen another word besides the r-word in her hit, but hopefully she’ll refrain from that next time.

Jamie Lynn Spears is no longer known as Zoey from the hit Nickelodeon series "Zoey 101." After being away from the entertainment industry for five years, Britney's little sister is 23-years-old now, and she's forgotten about her childhood acting days. Literally, she forgot. "This past weekend a little girl asked me to sing the 'Zoey 101' song on stage," Spears said. "It was awkward because I didn't remember the words. She was so cute, I couldn't tell her no...so I tried my best." She said country music is how she releases her creativity, unlike her sister Britney who does so through pop music. "Every person in this world has a different outlet for them where they release their creative energies or whatever energies they need to release," Spears said. "It's just the way she chose to release hers and this is how I chose to release mine." A Louisiana native, Spears said it was her southern roots that led her to choose country music for her album. "I think people forget that I grew up in Louisiana, I only went to L.A. and worked for a little bit...I think that confuses people," she said. "But when you grow up in the South, it's just a way of life, it's just a part of who I am. When I started writing, it felt like the only genre to tell my story." She said she tries to take something from each artist to influence her. Spears will be opening for Big & Rich this summer, making a stop at Pappy K's Alehouse on Thursday night. Even though she's only performed one show with the rowdy duo so far, she said she's learned a lot from Big Kenny and John Rich. "They're really passionate about what they do and I love seeing that," Spears said. "There's always such a high energy and such a passion for what they're doing. There's never a moment where I don't think they're truly passionate about their fans and their project, they give 100 percent every time they're on stage and it reminds you to never lose that passion." Spears said that her older sister Britney told her to "stick to her gut and do what you love." "She said you can't do it all, all the time," Spears said. "You have to work so that you can obviously provide for your children. But you have to learn that being a good mom is also providing for your children and working even though you feel so guilty. It's just knowing that you can't do everything all the time." When it comes to the business side of the sisters' relationship, Spears said her and Britney didn't compete much due to their age difference. "We're 10 years apart, so she was like a second mom," Spears said about Britney. "It's not like we were two sisters that grew up sharing clothes." For all you Spears sisters fans, don't' expect a Jamie Lynn and Britney collaboration anytime soon. "Right now I'm just focusing on my stuff," Spears said. But she added, "Who knows what the future holds?"

Video has emerged of the moment Jamie Lynn Spears pulled a knife during a sandwich shop fight in Louisiana. Britney Spears' younger sister, who is a former Nickelodeon star, is seeing brandishing a seven inch bread knife in CCTV footage captured during the showdown, which happened last month. The 23-year-old is seen grabbing it from a kitchen counter top after her friend got caught in the middle of a brawl at the Pita Pit in Hammond, Louisiana. Jamie Lynn can be seen pulling her pal out of the fight, before finding the serrated knife and pointing it at patrons. Footage shows the Zoey 101 star and mother-of-one marching behind the kitchen counter and picking up the knife, as one of the restaurant employees looks on. Jamie Lynn appears to be shouting as she holds the instrument aloft, and quickly succeeds in stopping the fight. TMZ reports that the incident occurred when Jamie Lynn was visiting the health food wrap chain for a late night snack and her female companion was allegedly hit with a bottle. The shop employee was seen on the phone, presumably calling the police, as the diminutive star waved the knife around. TMZ claims that when officers arrived, Jamie Lynn's friend did not want to press charges, so no arrests were made.
