Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey performed a joint session for CMT Crossroads last year and have shared a rendition of Ballerini’s “The Other Girl.”
The collaborative performance, which was filmed at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville in October, premieres March 25th and the pair have previously shared a video clip of Halsey’s “Graveyard.” It marks the 70th episode of CMT Crossroads, which has evolved toward more pop-centered artists since its roots-oriented premiere with Lucinda Williams and Elvis Costello in 2002.
“The Other Girl” comes off Ballerini’s upcoming new album, Kelsea, which is out now. The album will includes previously released songs “Homecoming Queen?” and “Club,” both of which she performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this year.
Halsey, meanwhile, released her new album Manic in January. She appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live the same month to perform her country-inspired number “You Should Be Sad,” as well as “Finally // Beautiful Stranger.”

Name a more iconic duo … we’ll wait! On Wednesday, March 25, Halsey and Kelsea Ballerini teamed up for CMT Crossroads and y’all, we were not prepared for how incredible their performance was. Despite the pouring rain, the pop star, 25, and country singer, 26, managed to perfectly meld their go-to genres. Halsey and Kelsea started by performing “Bad at Love” off the New Jersey native’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom album. Though it’s been three years since Halsey released the song, it’s every bit as powerful today — especially with Kelsea’s added flair. Next up? The pair belted out Kelsea’s 2015 single “Peter Pan.” Of course, the ladies chose that song because they both have experience dating “man-children,” as Halsey so boldly stated. It’s no surprise then that “Peter Pan” transitioned into Halsey’s popular breakup ballad “Without Me.” The single, which has some pretty biting lyrics, is rumored to be about her ex-boyfriend G-Eazy. In the past, Halsey has admitted that her romantic relationships have a large influence on her music. However, her latest studio record, Manic, is so much more than that. “This whole album isn’t about Gerald,” she assured Zane Lowe during an interview on Apple Music’s “Beats 1.” “A lot of it is a reconnaissance of things I never got to work through because I was 19 and I was Halsey,” the Billboard Music Award winner continued. “I didn’t have time for self-care because I had to be composed. And I got too composed — that was part of the problem.” In Halsey’s song “Graveyard,” which she and Kelsea also performed effortlessly, the lyrics are honest, vulnerable and relatable to anyone who has been in a relationship that’s not good for them. “It’s crazy when/ The thing you love the most is the detriment/ Let that sink in/ You can think again/When the hand you wanna hold is a weapon and/You’re nothin’ but skin,” Halsey penned. As much as we love the original version, we’re definitely going to be listening to Halsey and Kelsea’s rendition, as well. Here’s hoping these two powerhouses link up together for some more musical magic! Ahem, perhaps a whole album together? Think about it.

Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey's episode of CMT Crossroads drops in full on Wednesday night (March 25), and it'll feature a jam-packed set of duets, covers and more. The episode was taped in front of a live audience at downtown Nashville's Ascend Amphitheatre in October of 2019, and fans have already gotten peeks at a few of the songs in the setlist.
Watching the pair perform songs including Ballerini's "Homecoming Queen?" and Halsey's "Graveyard," they look cool, calm and collected onstage -- but, actually, the hours leading up to the performance were pretty stressful. During a recent Instagram Live event, Ballerini and Halsey remembered waiting backstage before the show, worrying that the event was going to get rained out.
"We'd been rehearsing for days and we were so nervous, and it started pouring rain," Halsey recalls. "We were terrified we weren't gonna be able to do our Crossroads, and there was a giant crowd hanging out."
It was pretty touch and go before the show -- so much so, in fact, that the two artists had already come up with a contingency plan: "The electronics can't get wet in the rain, but we were gonna at least get together and do some acoustic songs for the crowd," Halsey shares.
"[Ballerini] was like, 'Do you wanna do a shot of tequila?' We were planning on doing two songs and going home; we thought it was canceled. So we took these gigantic things of tequila," Halsey continues with a laugh.
"We were, like, hugging backstage. And then somebody came back and was like, 'We're gonna do [the full show]!'" she adds. "We looked at each other like, '... Oh. We are? Good thing we drank all that tequila, then.'"
And so, Ballerini and Halsey ended up doing their CMT Crossroads taping while ... well, just a little tipsy. "I remember walking out onstage thinking, 'This is not how I wanted this to go! I'm drunk,'" Halsey admits.
Fortunately, it all worked out in the end: The pair got to do their full performance, and they nailed it. Ballerini and Halsey's full CMT Crossroads episode airs on CMT at 10PM ET.
