According to The Indian Express, the woman—referred to only as "Sajitha"—disappeared from her village in the state of Kerala when she was just 18 years old. Over a decade later, her family had abandoned hope that she might ever be found. However, when the man she ran off with was recently reported missing by his own family, a domino effect of discoveries led back to Sajitha.
The saga began in February 2010, when Sajitha reportedly left her home and walked to Alinchuvattil Rahman's house, 500 meters away. There, she spent a decade living in a spare single room without the knowledge of Rahman's other family members, with whom he shared the home.
According to his brother Basheer, Rahman was intensely secretive about his spare room: he reportedly kept it locked and refused entry to anyone but himself. And, because of his alleged bad temper, Rahman's parents didn't push the issue further—and instead, allowing the odd behavior to continue.
"Sometimes he behaved like a mentally deranged person, would turn violent if someone tried to get into his room," explained Basheer to The Indian Express. "He would even take his food in to eat... During the day, as everyone was at work, Rahman and Sajitha would have the house to themselves."
Meanwhile, police looked fervently for Sajitha at the time of her disappearance. She reportedly didn't have a cell phone, and there was no reason for authorities to suspect that she might have been with the then-24-year-old Rahman.

A body found inside a bag on the seabed off Tenerife has been confirmed as that of a missing six-year-old girl taken by her father weeks ago. Investigators searching the water off the Port of Guimar found the bag tied to an anchor some 3,200ft (1,000m) below the surface, Spain's Civil Guard said on Friday. Coroners later identified the body as Olivia Gimeno - whose father Tomas took her and her one-year-old sister Anna without permission on 27 April. Their mother Beatriz Zimmermann, who is divorced from their father, claims he told her she would never see any of them again. A second bag was also found empty in the water off Tenerife, sparking fears Anna's body may never be found. Police are still looking for the one-year-old and her father. Investigators launched a widescale search after the girls disappeared, focusing on an area of sea off the Canary Islands when Mr Gimeno's boat was found abandoned there.

Catherine Serou, a 34-year-old U.S. citizen studying in Russia, has been found dead after she went missing on Tuesday, Russia's Investigative Committee said in a statement. A man in his early 40s with past convictions, has been arrested and is cooperating with investigators, the committee said. His name was not released. Serou disappeared after she got into a car with a stranger in a suburb of Nizhny Novgorod, a city on the Volga River 250 miles east of Moscow. The last sign of life from Serou was a text message to her mother in Vicksburg, Miss., saying: "In a car with a stranger. I hope I'm not being abducted." Serou's body was found early Saturday morning, an hour after the suspect was arrested, the nn.ru news site reported, citing regional police. A tabloid site has published a photo, apparently taken by a surveillance camera, showing Serou looking out of the open passenger window of a silver car.

Serou probably panicked as she was driven into a forest, her mother says Serou had been in a hurry on Tuesday to return to a clinic in Nizhny Novgorod where she had made a payment that didn't go through, according to her mother, so she may have jumped into a passing car without waiting for her Uber to arrive.
"I think that when she saw that the person wasn't driving to the clinic, but instead was driving into a forest, she panicked," Beccy Serou said.
Beccy Serou, a paralegal, last saw her daughter about two years ago, when Catherine sold her condominium in California to finance her studies in Russia. They stayed in touch with daily phone calls, and Beccy Serou says her daughter was enjoying her time abroad.
"She loved the university," Serou said.
A video posted by the nn.ru news site less than a year ago shows Catherine Serou laughing and bantering in Russian and English as she explained cultural differences between Russia and the United States.
