The Call To Unite is a 24hr livestream celebrating our shared humanity. Who has been there for you & how will you #AnswerTheCall for someone else?
Former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush will be some of the leaders and luminaries appearing in a 24-hour “streamathon” aimed at encouraging acts of service during this time of global pandemic and hardship.
Oprah, Yo-Yo Ma, Questlove, Julia Roberts, T.D. Jakes and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company are also expected to appear, among many others.
The celebration begins at 8 p.m. ET on Friday. Watch live in our player above.
The event, called “The Call to Unite,” was organized by a nonprofit run by Timothy Shriver, who has been the long-term chairman of the Special Olympics.
“Something is happening in the world. We can all sense it, feel it, see it. It’s terrifying. It’s disrupting. It’s calling on us to change,” Shriver wrote in an open letter, adding, “We need to unite.”
Viewers are encouraged to find one way to help someone else over the course of the day, including making a donation, volunteering or “sharing a story of hope and compassion,” according to the website.

JENNIFER GARNER During the "Call To Unite" livestream, Jennifer Garner read to West Virginia Schoolchildren. "I've been reading to the kids at Pleasant Hill over Skype from movie sets and different locations like my living room and kitchen once a month for the past couple of years," she shared. "And we are so excited to share our tradition with everybody out there because my call to unite has been to make sure that kids who are missing out on education and food with school closures have access to both." EVA LONGORIA "I've seen extraordinary acts by extraordinary people," Eva Longoria shared during the "Call To Unite" livestream. "Nurses and doctors risking their lives, not seeing their own families so they can take care of ours. I've seen chefs pivoting away from restaurant business and customers, and focusing on feeding the homeless and those in need. Therapists donating their time online for no charge just because they want to help those in need who need mental health support at this time as they face scary uncertainties. Perfume factories making hand sanitizers instead of fragrances. Grandmas and moms and aunts and uncles and nieces and everybody using their hobby of sewing to make masks for front-line health responders. [...] We're in a moment where we have a chance to reset and to start anew, to come out of this wiser and stronger and kinder." JULIA ROBERTS Julia Roberts read Rescue the Princess, a children's book, for viewers at home. She said she chose the book to raise awareness of children's education and gender inequality. "Girls are at acute risk for never returning to the classroom," she said, after highlighting the important work non-profit Room to Read does for low-income communities and students.
