Congressman Eric Swalwell is showing what "Only the Young" can do -- with some help from Taylor Swift.
The pop star authorized the use of one of her songs in a political spot for the first time on Friday (Oct. 30), as her protest song featured in Miss Americana soundtracked the nearly two-minute clip of protests, inhumane immigration policies, police brutality, voter fraud, climate change and more that the nation has experienced since Donald Trump was elected in 2016.
The vignette also shows the power of voting, and the change that can come from rising against injustice. The clip ends with Democratic nominee Joe Biden hugging a young person, assuring, "We're going to be okay."
"Up there's the finish line. Our future is worth our fight," Swalwell captioned the clip, encouraging Americans to vote in the days leading up to the election. "Thank you, Taylor Swift, for voicing what #OnlyTheYoung can do. Let’s run!"

Taylor Swift has allowed a super PAC fronted by California Democratic representative Eric Swalwell to use her song “Only the Young” in a new political ad.
The spot from Remedy PAC is aimed at boosting voter turnout, especially among young people, and opens with a quote from vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris, wondering why so many powerful people are making it so difficult to vote. The rest of the ad boasts a montage of chaotic and hopeful scenes from the past four years, soundtracked by 2020’s “Only the Young,” from Swift’s documentary Miss Americana.
The new ad marks the first time Swift has allowed her music to be used in a political ad, although over the summer her cover of Tom Petty’s “American Girl” was featured in a video package during the Democratic National Convention. Swift has not shared a statement specifically about the “Only the Young” spot and a representative did not return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.

Taylor Swift is ready to make President Trump the head of the last great American dynasty.
Swift made her biggest political statement yet on Friday, allowing her song “Only the Young" to be used in a campaign ad for Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris. The spot comes from Rep. Eric Swalwell’s (D-Calif.) Remedy PAC, and promotes turnout among younger voters.
After the voice of Harris asks "Why are so many powerful people trying to make it so difficult for us to vote?" Swift's politically active tune from her Netflix documentary kicks in. Democratic voters cry after Trump's election, #MeToo protesters march, and then Republican men flash across the screen as Swift sings "their hands are stained with red." "They aren't gonna help us, too busy helping themselves," Swift continues over images of Amy Coney Barrett, burning wildfires, and closed businesses. But then Swift breaks into a triumphant chorus as children march for Black lives, gun control, and the United States Postal Service.
"They've marched for years on these issues," Swalwell explained to CNN. "The song calls on people to run, and essentially run to the polls." The ad comes at the end of Swift's most activist year yet, after her Netflix documentary revealed how she fought her management tam to raise her political voice.

Taylor Swift is once again seeping into places you never thought you'd see her -- like on an AP history exam for high school students ... which is exactly what happened this week. The pop star cameoed on the College Board's AP U.S. Government and Politics test administered to AP Government students this past Monday ... with one of the free-response questions asking about her 2018 political post that touched on the midterm elections. Unclear how exactly the question was phrased -- you can't really whip your phone out in those types of settings to snap a shot -- but word is that it had something to do with analyzing how voter registration laws affect civic participation ... like voter turnout. http://instagram.com/p/BopoXpYnCes You'll recall ... TS tried getting out the vote back then by encouraging people to vote against then-U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, and instead getting behind the Democratic Governor Phil Bredesen in the race for the open U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee by Bob Corker. She talked about how she hardly ever waded into politics, etc. ... and then dropped a link to Vote.org. BTW, her advocacy didn't really work -- Blackburn won that race in the end.
