Lea Michele posted what seemed like a well-intentioned tweet, saying, “George Floyd did not deserve this. This was not an isolated incident and it must end. #BlackLivesMatter.” But her former “Glee” co-stars had quite the visceral reaction. Samantha Ware, a Black cast member on “Glee,” responded with a list of grievances about how Michelle had made her life a “living hell” on the set of the show. Quickly, other “Glee” stars started piling on, supporting Ware’s claims.
"Glee" star Amber Riley has officially addressed for the "first and last time" the viral controversy surrounding co-star Lea Michele's onset behavior.
Riley, 34, spoke on Instagram Live with journalist Danielle Young Thursday, in an interview about the continuing Black Lives Matter protests. She also briefly addressed (at minute 43) the controversy around Michele from the Fox musical series.
Riley said she was proud of "Glee" co-star Samantha Ware for originally speaking out about Michele, saying "I’m proud of her of not being fearful and telling her truth."
Ware, who appeared in the final "Glee" season, called out Michele on Twitter June 1 after the singer and actress tweeted using the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag.
As accusations of Michele's alleged diva behavior continued to surface this week, Riley clarified one point on Thursday. "I’m not going to say that Lea Michele is racist. That’s not what I’m saying," she said. "That was the assumption because of what’s going on right now in the world and it happened toward a black person. I’m not going to say that she’s racist."
Riley, who played Mercedes Jones in the series, added that Michele is expecting her first child. "She’s also pregnant and I think that everybody needs to kind of chill. Y’all have dragged her for a couple of days."
But Riley also noted she had recently received many messages from black actors saying they had been terrorized by white leads on their own TV shows and felt they couldn't speak up.
Riley added she hopes Michele "has grown." She revealed she had recently communicated with Michele for the first time in two years. "She reached out to me, I responded to her and that’s where it ends for me."

Lea Michele has been on the receiving end of backlash over past behavior on set ranging from allegations of discrimination to being 'unpleasant' to work with. But a former colleague of the star says the actress didn't 'discriminate' because her treatment of everyone was the same, coming from a place of being 'completely self-obsessed.' Speaking to Us Weekly on Thursday, the unnamed source said 'It didn’t matter if you were young or old, black or white — it’s just kind of her world. 'Though she was completely self-obsessed toward everyone, she did not discriminate,' the source, who worked with the Glee star, 33, said. Adding: 'Things are seen through a lens, and it comes from a very protective place where obviously she’s been on guard. She’s fiery and she has more of an aggressive personality where most people would play weak or vulnerable or ask for sympathy and Lea does not do that.' Many of the stories shared of Michele stemmed from her time starring as Rachel Berry on Glee from 2009 until 2015. Michele who is expecting her first child with husband Zandy Reich later this year, apologized for her behavior on Wednesday, and said she has 'never judged others by their background or color of their skin.' She also insisted she will learn from the mistakes she has made so she 'can be a real role model for my child' when she gives birth in a couple of months. The bullying allegations came to light after Michele took to social media last Friday to pay tribute to George Floyd, writing: 'George Floyd did not deserve this. This was not an isolated incident and it must end' she wrote.

Sarah Paulson appeared on Thursday's episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and dodged a question about recent allegations regarding Lea Michele. Both actresses have starred on Ryan Murphy shows—with Paulson appearing in American Horror Story and Michele appearing in Glee. So Andy Cohen asked a question from a viewer who wanted to know Paulson's thoughts on Michele's alleged on-set behavior. However, the 45-year-old star avoided the topic. "I'm having a weird connection. I can't really hear you," she said with a laugh. Fans learned about Michele's alleged on-set behavior in May after Michele tweeted about George Floyd's death at the hands of police. "George Floyd did not deserve this," the 33-year-old actress wrote at the time. "This was not an isolated incident and it must end." Samantha Marie Ware, who played Jane Hayward on Glee, then replied by writing, "LMAO remember when you made my first [television] gig a living hell?!?! Cause I'll never forget. I believe you told everyone that if [you] had the opportunity you would 's--t in my wig!' amongst other traumatic microagressions that made me question a career in Hollywood…" The Rachel Berry celeb issued an apology days later. "One of the most important lessons of the last few weeks is that we need to take the time to listen and learn about other people's perspectives and any role we have played or anything we can do to help address the injustices that they face," Michele wrote in a post shared to Instagram. "When I tweeted the other day, it was meant to be a show of support for our friends and neighbors and communities of color during this really difficult time, but the responses I received to what I posted have made me also focus specifically on how my own behavior towards fellow cast members was perceived by them." While Michele said she didn't "remember ever making this specific statement" and claimed she has "never judged others by their background or color of their skin," she noted "that's not really the point" and that "what matters is" she "clearly acted in ways which hurt other people."

Taking a step back. Lea Michele deactivated her Twitter account after she received an onslaught of tweets about her former Glee costar Naya Rivera‘s disappearance. The account was deleted on Saturday, July 11, three days after Rivera, 33, was reported missing after renting a pontoon boat at Lake Piru in California with her 4-year-old son, Josey. The Devious Maids alum’s son — whom she shares with her ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey — was found on the boat with a life jacket. Authorities are still looking for Rivera, whose family has joined police to locate the California native. Rivera has received an outpouring of support from Glee costars including Heather Morris, who told police on Saturday she wanted to help conduct an on-foot search. Michele, 33, has not commented on Rivera’s disappearance but was urged to do so by some Twitter users. The Scream Queens alum’s Twitter deactivation also comes after she made headlines in May for clashing with her castmates. Her former Glee costar Samantha Marie Ware claimed that Michele made the set a “living hell” for her after the New York native tweeted her support for the Black Lives Matter movement. “I BELIEVE YOU TOLD EVERYONE THAT IF TOU [sic] HAD THE OPPORTUNITY YOU WOULD ‘S–T IN MY WIG!’ AMONGST OTHER TRAUMATIC MICROAGGRESSIONS THAT MADE ME QUESTION A CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD,” Ware, 28, tweeted in May. Ware’s allegation caused some of Michele’s other former costars to come forward with their own experiences, including Spring Awakening’s Gerard Canonico and Morris, 33.

Lea Michele is paying tribute to her late Glee costars Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith. On Monday, Rivera, 33, was confirmed dead by authorities five days after she disappeared during a lake trip with her young son. The discovery of her body came the same day that Monteith died seven years prior as a result of a “mixed drug toxicity” of heroin and alcohol. He was 31. To commemorate the lives of her castmates, Michele, 33, shared black-and-white portraits of the actress and actor to her Instagram Story — first posting a photo of Rivera followed by a shot of Monteith, whom she was dating at the time of his death. Michele also shared a group photo from Glee. Before Monteith's death in 2013, he and Michele were in love and had discussed marriage, a source told PEOPLE at the time. http://instagram.com/p/CAn8NAOF2Pi Michele is now married to Zandy Reich, with whom she is expecting her first child.
