Just seconds after Roberta Battaglia's America's Got Talent audition began, judges Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel knew they were witnessing something special. The 10-year-old singer took on the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga A Star Is Born ballad "Shallow" with grace and poise, proving that she has what it takes to compete for the AGT title this year. Moreover, the preteen was able to send her childhood bullies a strong message about not letting negativity get in the way of your dreams. “You know what? Let’s see who’s going to bully you after this," Sofía told Roberta right before slamming her hand on the golden buzzer. Soon after, Roberta was showered with golden confetti on the AGT stage. “When I got the golden buzzer, oh my God, I was feeling so excited to go to the live shows,” Roberta told CBC Kids News. "I was bursting with happiness and tears." The Toronto native's background in music and performing undoubtedly prepared her for the NBC competition series, as did coaching from her father, Alessandro, who is also a musician. Alessandro reportedly moved to Canada from Italy in 2008, right before Roberta was born. “All of my family loves music. My grandfather was a music professor, my dad plays the keyboard and saxophone and sings, so I followed in his footsteps. We’re just a family of music," Roberta said. CityLife.com reports that Roberta began singing with her father when she was only two-and-a-half years old. Since then, she's continued to perform at various galas, community events, charity functions and more. Pre-AGT, she landed a second-place finish on the CNE Rising Star Talent Competition for juniors in 2019. In response to Roberta's success on AGT, the talent organization announced their support of the young singer on social media. But that wasn't Roberta's only time in the sun before Got Talent. Back in March 2019, the young vocalist gained attention for covering — yep, you guessed it — "Shallow" on the Canadian morning show Breakfast Television. To date, the Youtube video of her performance has over 800,000 views.

Roberta Battaglia Sings an AMAZING Rendition of "What About Us" by P!nk - America's Got Talent 2020
Last week on America’s Got Talent, observant viewers were confused when teen-heartthrob singer Thomas Day mysteriously dropped out of the quarterfinals, with the already-eliminated country duo Broken Roots taking his place at the last minute. Thomas had originally been scheduled to perform in week three, then was bumped to week four, before he left the show entirely — all without any official explanation from the AGT powers-that-be. Last week, shortly after his abrupt departure, Thomas told a fan on Cameo that his high school football schedule had conflicted with the show. But this week, when he surprisingly returned to the semifinals as a wild-card contestant, the 17-year-old revealed the true reason for his absence.
As Thomas explained Tuesday, he and his mom were already in Hollywood for the quarterfinals rehearsals when his mother tested positive for COVID-19. Thomas was terrified for his mom’s wellbeing, while she was more concerned that her illness would derail her son’s AGT dream. The Days were quarantined from each other in separate hotel rooms for the next two weeks while Thomas underwent regular coronavirus tests … and then he eventually tested positive as well.
“I was scared for my health. My mom and I were fortunate — we got through it,” Thomas said this week when he returned to AGT. “I've watched the show. I've seen all the people go through. And I mean, I know my dream is over. I'm just waiting for the flight to go back home — and out of nowhere, on the last day of quarantine, that's when I got the call when they told me I was being brought back on the show as a wild card. I feel so blessed and thankful.”

It’s time to wipe away those happy/sad tears. America voted and five finalists have been selected for the last stage of America’s Got Talent 2020. For six contestants, the dream is over. There’s no shortage of singing talent among the chosen few, as Golden Buzzer winner Roberta Battaglia, duo Broken Roots and Louisiana hopeful Archie Williams get the nod. They’ll join aerial act Alan Silva and spoken word artist Brandon Leake in the final frame. After a string of impressive performances, Canadian tween Battaglia will go up against more-experienced competition. At 11, Battaglia hasn’t shown even a glimpse of nerves during the competition. The youngster did get emotional when her name was called out Wednesday night, even though most casual fans figured she was a shoo-in. Singer Celina, Daneliya Tuleshova and Kenadi Dodds will compete in the second semi for a place in the 2020 grand final on NBC.
