Fans are "Needy" for Kelsea Ballerini's new surprise album titled "Ballerini."
The Knoxville native's record releases on Friday, Sept. 11 – only six months after her last release, "Kelsea" – and will feature stripped-down versions of songs from the March album including "The Other Girl" and "Hole in the Bottle."
"Kelsea" debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 charts, but fans' anticipation for the reinvented record could replace its predecessor on the charts.
Ballerini shocked fans on social media in early September when she posted the cover art and release date for the reworked album. The songwriter dropped the "Ballerini" rendition of "Club" at the same time and has since shared a snippet of "Homecoming Queen?" for its one year anniversary on Twitter.
“Someone was like, ‘Hey, you just put out this album that you’re in love with. What happened? Please go back to it and find a way to fall back in love with it,’” Ballerini told The Tennessean. “The circumstances are the circumstances, but that doesn’t change the art you made."
Blissfully 'Ballerini'
The titles of the 13 tracks on "Ballerini" may look the same, but don't be mistaken: "Ballerini" is not a remake – it's an original.
The country-pop songs on "Kelsea" are made for dancing at parties and topping the radio charts, but Ballerini found her pace amid the quiet during quarantine and is putting out a piano-packed release this time.
"Different keys, tempos, melodies, lyrics, production. Each song has its own set of changes ... all super intentional to make the lyrics hit different. I'm so freaking excited," Ballerini said on Twitter about the upcoming album.
"Ballerini" is complementary yet completely different from the artist's previous works. Her raw voice and talent are revealed with every note. It is the first record Ballerini has co-produced, making it more personal, too.
“‘Ballerini is really what it would’ve sounded like not touring it,” Ballerini said. “What the songs sound like now, sitting in your living room with very few people and having a glass of wine. And really having the time to listen to things differently. That’s what this album is.”

Ballerini announced her plans to release the new record a day after being left off the 2020 Country Music Association Awards nominee list. The singer's perseverance should come as no surprise because she's been in a similar situation before.
Since announcing "Ballerini," the artist shared more music, shot a video for a new song and more.
She used Twitter to remind fans and the CMA the last time she was overlooked, she wrote the hit "Homecoming Queen?" the next day. Ballerini's response referred to when the American Country Music Awards snubbed her in 2019 weeks after her sophomore album "Unapologetically" was up for Best Country Album at the Grammys.
"Something beautiful will undoubtedly come from the current disappointment." Ballerini tweeted. "Nonetheless, congratulations to my friends & peers that got nominations. Proud to be a part of the country family, always."
Record release and the road
Ballerini will appear on the "Late Late Show With James Corden" to promote the new release Sept. 14. She will perform her single "Hole in the Bottle" at the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards Sept. 16.
This singer hasn't announced a tour for the album because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, however, there is hope for hometown fans: Her song "Half of My Hometown," which she originally recorded with fellow Knoxvillian Kenny Chesney on "Kelsea," will be redone on the record.
"I feel like I’ve finally found my silver lining for this year and this is it and I get to put it out now.," Ballerini said.
