Country music legend Dolly Parton and her wrecking ball of a goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, have tag-teamed on an earnest holiday ballad, “Christmas Is,” which is one of a dozen audio tracks posted overnight on Parton’s YouTube channel. The uplifting, breathy tune pumps up the true meaning of the holiday season, as they warble together, “It’s all about kindness, love, and compassion — better to give than receive.” Their duet — plus Parton’s collaboration with Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, titled “Christmas Where We Are” — is part of her newest, gently produced holiday album, “A Holly Dolly Christmas,” Parton’s first in the genre in three decades. The 12-cut record also includes collabs with Michael Bublé (the jazzy “Cuddle Up, Cozy Down Christmas”), Willie Nelson (the twangy “Pretty Paper”) and her younger brother, singer Randy Parton (the uptempo “You Are My Christmas”). Plus, Parton serves up her own lighthearted, jaunty versions of holiday hits including “I Saw Mommy Kissing Claus” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.” She also teams with “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon for a karaoke-level version of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” But be warned: A “History of Rap” battle — à la Fallon vs. Justin Timberlake — it’s not. You may cringe when the purring Parton gets all “mushy and romantic” and closes the song with the croon, “Oh, you sexy boy!” Miley, 27, isn’t just frolicking in Christmas collabs with her 74-year-old godmother these days. This week she released a band-approved cover of the Blondie classic “Heart of Glass,” which she performed at the iHeartRadio Music Festival last month. And during the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards in August, she offered up a live version of her single “Midnight Sky” that included a re-creation of her swinging “Wrecking Ball” video.

Miley Cyrus's iconic cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" lives in my mind rent free. The video from 2012 has garnered nearly 274 million views on Youtube and Cyrus has never done anything else like it — until four days ago when she covered Blondie's "Heart of Glass." Like her take on "Jolene," the iconic '80s song feels like it was made for her voice, and it's quickly gone viral with 4 million views. Basically, I've handed this iHeartRadio cover the keys to my brain so it can live alongside Miley's backyard session from 2012. The difference with Cyrus's latest take is that this time she fully channeled Debbie Harry in a black sheer catsuit and layers of chunky silver jewelry, a sleeked back blonde mullet, glitter makeup, and Harry's signature red lip. In "Jolene," Miley was just being Miley. This time around she looks nearly unrecognizable. In the days since her cover was released Cyrus has been spotted out around New York City with Dua Lipa looking exactly like the '80s rock star in a baggy dark wash Canadian tuxedo and Haava Mustafa Texas buckle boots. The British shoe brand is known for doing a modern take on edgy leather boots inspired by youth culture and a too-cool-for-school attitude. And if this "Heart of Glass" cover could be a shoe, it would definitely be Cyrus's Havva boot. The silhouette feels like a nod to Hannah Montana with the hardware leading the way for a new chapter. Hopefully it's one filled with so many more iconic covers and fits to match.

Dolly Parton has discussed her recent collaboration with Miley Cyrus, stating that she had to get the ‘Plastic Hearts’ singer on her Christmas album as it might be her last.
The country music legend released her third Christmas album ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ back in October. The 12-track project features an all-star cast, including Billy Ray Cyrus, Michael Bublé, Jimmy Fallon and Willie Nelson.
Another guest on the album is Parton’s goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, who appears on the track ‘Christmas Is’. Speaking in a new interview, the country queen opened up about the collaboration.
“She had to sing on this Christmas album,” Parton told ET Canada. “She was working on her own project and I said, ‘I’m not going to ask you to put it out as a single, I know you got your own thing, but you have to sing on this album with me – you and Billy Ray, because you’re like family, and I’m probably never going to do another Christmas album.'”
‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’ is Dolly Parton’s 47th album – listen to her collaboration with Miley Cyrus below.
Elsewhere in the interview, Parton said that she “would have loved” to have put out a Christmas special this year to accompany the release of her new album, but she couldn’t because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I said maybe next year, I can get with all these artists and we can revive the album for Christmas next year and add some new and additional things and make a special,” she said. “I believe in rolling as you go, you can’t give up, you just fit yourself into anything that’s happening. Be as productive as you can be.”
Meanwhile, Cyrus released her new album ‘Plastic Hearts’ on Friday (November 27) featuring the tracks ‘High’, ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Bad Karma’.

Country music legend Dolly Parton got a taste of her own medicine on Tuesday when she received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine whose research she helped fund. Parton, 75, documented the moment in a video posted to social media in which she encouraged eligible viewers to get the shot and broke into a modified rendition of "Jolene" to that effect. "Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you please don't hesitate," she sang. "Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, 'cause once you're dead then that's a bit too late." Dr. Naji Abumrad of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center administered a dose of the Moderna vaccine to Parton, who was wearing a sweater with shoulder cutouts for the occasion. The two have a long-running friendship; they met in 2013 when Parton was admitted to the emergency room following a car accident and have since grown close. Last April, as the pandemic was taking shape, the two had a conversation about the state of early COVID-19 research — and soon after, Parton announced a $1 million donation to Vanderbilt. That money helped fund three pandemic-related research projects, including one related to the Moderna vaccine. Mark Denison, the director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University, told NPR that Parton's donation helped researchers develop a "high-quality test" for use during vaccine trials.

Last night’s (May 8) edition of the show was controversially hosted by Elon Musk, and marked Cyrus’ seventh time as the musical guest.
As well as playing the title track from her latest album ‘Plastic Hearts’, Cyrus also teamed uo with The Kid LAROI to perform their latest collaboration ‘Without You’.
Alongside those two performances, Cyrus also shared a cover of her godmother Dolly Parton‘s ‘Light Of A Clear Blue Morning’ for the show’s cold open, which saw the show’s cast and guests celebrating Mother’s Day, which falls today (May 9).
