Prince William had COVID-19 in April — and “struggled to breathe’’ at one point, sending royal aides into a terrified panic, a report said Sunday. The British royal, 38, fought to keep the news of his illness out of the press because dad Prince Charles and the country’s prime minister, Boris Johnson, had both just come down with the deadly contagion and William was concerned how his illness would worry the nation even more, sources told The Sun. “William was hit pretty hard by the virus — it really knocked him for six,’’ a source told the outlet. “At one stage he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was pretty panicked.” But “after seeing medics and testing positive, which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is, William was determined it should be business as usual,’’ the source said. “He was determined to fulfill his engagements.” The prince, who is next in line to succeed his father to the throne, was treated by palace doctors and properly quarantined at his family’s home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk — all while carrying out work phone calls and video chats, the outlet said. The married dad of three later told a source at an event that he kept his illness quiet because “there were important things going on, and I didn’t want to worry anyone,’’ The Sun reported. Now, “as a result of his own experiences, he realizes absolutely anyone can catch this awful disease and knows how imperative it is that we all take this second lockdown seriously,’’ a source said. The Palace did not respond to The Sun’s request for comment.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have spoken of how the nation is “indebted” to thousands of key workers and NHS frontline staff as a new national lockdown looms.
In a video preview of the Pride of Britain Awards 2020, Kate was wearing a blue blouse covered with small rainbows, in a subtle tribute to the NHS.
Prince William and Kate made a special visit to London’s St Bartholomew’ – Britain’s oldest hospital founded almost 900 years ago – to present representatives of the whole of the NHS with a special recognition award for tonight’s Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, in partnership with TSB, on ITV at 9pm.

Royal watchers were shocked this week to learn that Prince William had secretly contracted, and since recovered from, the coronavirus. Back in April, just a couple weeks after his father, Prince Charles, tested positive for the COVID-19, William was diagnosed—but unlike Charles, who swiftly informed the public of his condition, he chose to keep it under wraps. It wasn't until the Sun broke the news on Sunday that the secret came out. Thankfully, it is understood that William's immediate family, including Kate Middleton and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, did not get the virus. According to the Sun, William was treated at Anmer Hall the Cambridge family's country home in Norfolk, but followed the government's guidelines for self-isolation—thereby, apparently, preventing his illness from spreading to his family members. During his recovery, the Prince continued to fulfill his royal obligations. “After seeing medics and testing positive - which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is - William was determined it should be business as usual though,” a source told the Sun. Still, he was “hit pretty hard by the virus,” the paper reported; at one point, the Prince was even “struggling to breathe.” Kate similarly kept calm and carried on during her husband's illness, participating in virtual engagements, helping to launch the Royal Foundation's initiative to aid COVID-19 first responders, and taking new photographs of Prince Louis to share on his second birthday.
