Kelsea Ballerini gave an epic performance of “ Baby” at the 2020 CMA Country Christmas special. The Performance From Kelsea Ballerini Ballerini hand-picked the Christmas classic that she performed. “I picked ‘ Baby’ because I really wanted to do something kind of fun and light on the show this year,” Ballerini told Vermillion County First. “Obviously it’s been a crazy year, very heavy, and so I just wanted to kind of swing that back over to the other side and just be fun.” Prior to her performance, she treated fans with a backstage clip of her getting ready. She performed the song acapella in her tour bus where she even messed up a lyric. Ballerini took the stage donning an elegant red gown. This year’s show looked a little different than in years past. There was no live audience and it was recorded on a set. The set was decked out in Christmas and winter decorations but the spotlight was on Ballerini and her guitar. She took the holiday hit and turned it into a country crossover.

Kelsea Ballerini gave a fun and flirty performance of the holiday classic, " Baby" at this year's CMA Country Christmas special on Monday (November 30). "I picked ‘ Baby’ because I really wanted to do something kind of fun and light on the show this year, obviously it’s been a crazy year, very heavy, and so I kind of just wanted to swing that back over to the other side and be fun tonight," she said ahead of her performance. During the show, the "Hole In The Bottle" singer also shared her favorite family Christmas tradition, "Jammy Day." This is a day where she and her family wear matching pajama's all day no matter where they go. In addition to Ballerini, Dan + Shay, Thomas Rhett, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Lady A, Gabby Barrett, Tim McGraw , and Darius Rucker with violinist and singer-songwriter, Lindsey Stirling also performed during the television special this year. Paul Miller directed this year's special, while Robert Deaton served as the executive producer and writer. "The idea for this year's show was to do a throwback of the great Christmas specials of the 1960s and 1970s," Deaton said in a previous statement. "Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra all had classic Christmas specials where the viewer was invited into the homes of the host to celebrate the holiday like a best friend coming to visit. That was what we wanted to create for this year's show. Instead of a big flashy production, we took a page from those iconic specials to say, 'Come relax, and let's celebrate the holidays together.'"

" Baby" undoubtedly harkens back to that era of merrymaking. Written by Joan Javits and Philip Springer, the song was first released in 1953 with a recording from singer Eartha Kitt backed by Henri René's orchestra. Since then, it's gone on to spawn multiple versions by a cadre of different artists. Before the program aired on Monday, fellow country performer Darius Rucker teamed up with violinist Lindsey Stirling for a moving rendition of the traditional Christmas carol "What Child Is This?" "Islands In the Stream" certainly isn't the only duet that Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers are known for. That pairing spawned several more and a popular television Christmas special Kenny & Dolly: A Christmas To Remember in in 1984. "Christmas Without You" was a major part of the TV special with cable networks later getting rights to re-air the performance. It was a great TV moment even if the song never became a radio hit.

Alabama released a pretty timeless Christmas album when Christmas dropped in 1985. “Thistlehair the Christmas Bear” and “Christmas In Dixie” are two more songs that made an impact but this version of Amy Grant’s holiday classic makes our list of the best country Christmas songs. Randy Owen’s warm and patient lyrics just feel right this time of year. This is just the saddest Christmas song, because it's the most real. Christmas is a celebration but it's also a marker of another chapter gone by. Our time together is finite and with effortless grace Musgraves captures that with "Christmas Makes Me Cry." In "The Christmas Guest," the story of spreading holiday cheer takes on a whole new meaning, thanks to Johnny Cash‘s signature deep and raspy voice. In this addition to the Top 50 Country Christmas Songs list, Cash tells the holiday story of a shopkeeper named Conrad, who is waiting on a visit from the Lord. As strangers come to his door seeking help, he realizes that God visited him in the form of beggars who needed his generosity. It’s a story all Christians hear at Christmas: Treat others as you would like to be treated, just like the Bible says. But something about the Man in Black telling the story makes it even more touching. Tim McGraw‘s jazzy addition to the Top 50 Country Christmas Songs list could have ranked higher, but the song was never really on an album. It’s unclear how the song found its way to country fans, actually. In this tune, McGraw tells the sweet story of a man hoping to still get a special gift for Christmas after treating a woman poorly. ‘Tis the season to be generous, and this guy hopes leaves his baby a full heart to replace the one he’s broken.
