Generation Axe are an American rock/heavy metal supergroup formed by Steve Vai in 2016. They toured North America in April and May 2016, and Asia in April 2017. Another North American tour took place in November and December 2018, and another short Asian tour in November 2019. A "guitar festival" where the whole story is fierce. Each person's solo stage is full of individuality, and the co-starring part that connects solos is a masterpiece in Tokyo. Especially when it comes to the beauty of "Still Got the Blues" by Zack / Nuno / Vai, which is the biggest listening point of the year! Based on Zack's extra-thick tone, Nuno and Vai connected the solos, and at the end it was a synchronized harmony with three people. It's a super-individual tone that each person can't mistake, but when it's involved, it's so beautiful ... Of course, there are "Hocus Pocus" with phrases and "Bohemian Rhapsody" that brings out the ultimate guitar orchestration. The terrifyingly luxurious "Burn" also has a tremendous impact. GENERATION AX is not just a festival where celebrity stages are lined up, and co-starring is not just a gorgeous bonus. A project that makes it meaningful for guitar masters to gather and layer sounds, and create performances that only they can do. This work is a 3-disc set that allows you to fully experience its awesomeness and depth with the finest sound. Members Steve Vai Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne Band) Yngwie Malmsteen (Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme, Mourning Widows) Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders) Bass – Pete Griffin (Dweezil Zappa, Stanley Clarke, Edgar Winter) Keyboards – Nick Marinovich (aka Nick Z. Brian May teamed up with a host of guitarists online earlier this week to play through Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
The performance featured Generation Axe's Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Animals As Leaders' Tosin Abasi and Yngwie Malmsteen – and was part of the AXS TV special At Home And Social With Nuno Bettencourt & Friends.
The show was set up by AXS TV to raise money for the Music Forward Foundation’s Crew Nation initiative, which is supporting touring and venue crews who are struggling due to the lockdown in the music industry because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Also appearing on the show were Heart’s Nancy Wilson, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, singer/songwriter Liv Warfield, Julian Lennon and singer Gabriela.
Introducing the show, Bettencourt said: “Until us performers can get back home to our stage, on August 3, with a little imagination and lots of passion, our homes will become our stage.
"I hope we all have homeowners insurance because we’re blowing the roof off the place.”
Along with the music, the hour-long show featured interviews, behind-the-scenes anecdotes and more, giving music fans a glimpse into the lives of the artists.

Many guitar players these days are labelled as a 'virtuoso' or a 'maestro', however, arguably there are none more deserving of either of these titles than this issue's cover artist, Yngwie Malmsteen.

Generation Axe in Japan TOKYO(11/29/2019) Steve Vai、Yngwie Malmsteen、Zakk Wylde、Nuno Bettencour、Tosin Abasi Fan-filmed video footage of Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi performing the DEEP PURPLE classic "Burn" on November 27 at the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania stop of the "Generation Axe" tour can be seen below. Vai recently told the Wichita, Kansas radio station 89.1 KMUW that the inaugural "Generation Axe" tours in 2016 were "fantastic." He explained: "It was one of those things where we got into and we didn't quite know what to expect, but it turned out so much better than we could have expected. We did the Asia run, and we tried to do a Europe run, but the biggest challenge with 'Generation Axe' is everybody's schedule lining up. We couldn't do that but hopefully, maybe, at one point we will. We decided a good time has passed to do another U.S. tour, and I'm actually working on a live record that was recorded from those Asian shows. It's turning out so great. I had no idea. Well, I had an idea." According to a press release, the "Generation Axe" experience goes way beyond simply gathering five guitar greats on one stage. Much of the time when multiple rock guitarists join in jamming, the results are conventional and often even a mess. But the arrangements of some of the classic tracks performed by these five players makes for a magnificent cacophony of organized chaos unlike anything ever presented before. Vai said the idea behind "Generation Axe" was "to create a seamless show with one backing band and five completely accomplished and astonishing guitarists that take to the stage in various configurations, performing some of their solo music and merging together as cohesive co-creators of lushly orchestrated guitar extravaganzas." Vai described "Generation Axe" as "pure controlled chaos." "My favorite thing about 'Generation Axe' is the tour bus," he said. "Between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m., when we're all hanging out in the lounge just rapping. I wake up in the morning [and] my jaw hurts from laughing so much. These guys, they're out of their minds."
