ROSÉ - 'On The Ground' M/V MAKING FILM
Blackpink's Rosé released her first solo project R on Thursday night with a moving, beautiful, and lyrically-deep lead single, "On the Ground," about where she has found happiness and where meaning really come from—and how money and celebrity aren't what give you purpose.
Rosé spoke about the song's meaning on YouTube's Released, saying, "Basically the song is kind of about looking for answers in life, for a purpose in life, and I feel like people, especially these days, can relate to it. Sometimes when you’re always kind of on that roll, you kind of forget to take care of what actually matters to you most, and it’s just a song that says that everything we need is already within us. There’s no need to go out and look for it."
She explained why she opted to do a song focused more on purpose than romance: "I talked to somebody the other day and they were like, ‘I’m surprised you’re coming out with a song like this because I expected you to come out with a song that’s more like, related to love,’" she started. "But I think it’s a very powerful song and I’m just excited for my fans to hear and get something out of it."

The lyrics, in all English, are a revealing look at what Rosé, one of the world's most famous singers, has learned about life. And the visually gorgeous music video has deeply personal roots too. As she explained on Released, "The video kind of shows a past version of me and a present version of me. And there’s like a scene where the present version of me goes back to my childhood house, and I’m looking back at how I grew up there and what kind of dreams I had and going back to that core self. It was so cinematic and just everything that I would dream my first solo music video to be."
