USA's Sunisa Lee (C) celebrate with USA's Jade Carey (L) and Brazil's Rebeca Andrade after the artistic gymnastics women's all-around final during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo on July 29, 2021. "Life can surprise you," Taylor Swift says in a brand-new promo for NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. And as it turns out, your favorite pop star can surprise you too. Swift narrates the new promo -- which is soundtracked by her title track from 2020's Evermore album with Bon Iver -- and hypes up her fans for the women's gymnastics individual all-around competition, airing at 8 p.m. ET Thursday night (July 29) on NBC. Team USA women's gymnastics has been grabbing headlines all week because of Simone Biles pulling out of competition. The new promo references the unexpected pair of Sunisa Lee and Jade Carey leading the way for Team USA in Biles' place, with Carey starting the week out as an alternate. "Life can surprise you. It can humble you. It can test you. It can inspire you," Swift says in the promo, over footage of the women practicing. "They didn't expect this to be the story. But that doesn't mean they weren't ready for the spotlight. They've worked for this. They've dreamed about this. They belong here. So don't be surprised as the story takes flight from here, in the women's all-around in Tokyo."

Taylor Swift knows "Everything Has Changed" since Simone Biles dropped out of the women's all-around competition, but she also knows Suni Lee and Jade Carey are more than "Ready For It."
The pop star offered her voice for an inspiring message ahead of the televised women's all-around gymnastics event. She spoke over a video of the competitors as they trained for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, saying, "Life can surprise you. It can humble you. It can test you. It can inspire you."
Taylor also acknowledged how the team overcame numerous hurdles on the road to Tokyo, including Simone's decision to pause her Olympics journey. The world-class athlete announced her decision to sit out the women's all around on Tuesday, July 27, explaining that she wants to prioritize her mental health.
In her absence, Jade and Suni stepped up to the plate.
"They didn't expect this to be the story, but that doesn't mean they weren't ready for the spotlight," the singer stated. "They've worked for this, they've dreamed about this, they belong here."
Taylor continued, "So don't be surprised as the story takes flight from here in the women's all around in Tokyo."
The competition took place in Tokyo early Thursday morning, making for some good news as people in the United States woke up. Suni earned a score of 57.44, landing her the top spot on the podium.
After winning the gold medal, she told reporters, "I was nervous, but I did my best, and I'm super proud of myself... It's crazy. I didn't ever think I'd be here."

Taylor Swift called Simone Biles a “hero” following her bronze medal win for her balance beam routine at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday. The singer narrated a video shared on Twitter for NBC’s broadcast of the events later that evening. Biles responded to the tribute, saying it brought her to tears.
“What do we want from our heroes? What do we expect from them? What do we need from them?,” Swift says in the spot. “What happens when they surprise us? When you have the attention of the world, everything you do takes on a bigger meaning. It can be a heavy burden. It can be a chance to change everything.”
The clip features Biles discussing putting “mental health first, because it shows how strong of a competitor, a person that you really are.” Biles had withdrawn from last week’s team final, citing the need to prioritize her mental health, and subsequently did not compete in the all-around competition or apparatus finals for vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.
“Throughout the last week her voice has been as significant as her talents. Her honesty as beautiful as the perfection that had long been her signature,” Swift continues. “But don’t you see? It still is. She’s perfectly human, and that’s what makes it so easy to call her a hero. Simone Biles, back on the beam in Tokyo.”
Following the video clip being shared by NBC Olympics on Twitter, Biles responded. “I’m crying,” she tweeted.
In turn, Swift retweeted Biles, and wrote, “I cried watching YOU. I feel so lucky to have gotten to watch you all these years, but this week was a lesson in emotional intelligence and resilience. We all learned from you. Thank you.”
