[New York Current Affairs] On the 26th, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) began a hearing in Lausanne, Switzerland, regarding the doping issue of female figure skater Kamila Valieva (Russia).
Reuters reported.
The hearing was held until the 28th, with participants from the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and International Skating Union (ISU). Valieva herself will respond online. A date for a final ruling has not been set.
During last year's Beijing Olympics, it was discovered that a banned substance was detected in a sample taken from Valieva at the Russian Championships in December 2021. RUSADA ruled that the athlete was not at fault and only disqualified her for her performance in the championship, but WADA is seeking a four-year suspension.
