Matthew Perry passed away suddenly at his home at the end of October. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office announced that Perry's death was an accident and the cause of death was "the acute effects of ketamine." Ketamine is a sedative that is sometimes used to treat depression. According to the coroner's office, Perry received "ketamine infusion therapy" before his death, but his last treatment was more than a week before his death. Some media outlets have therefore suggested that the ketamine that led to his death was not used in therapy.
Perry had struggled with an addiction to opioids, but had been drug-free for 19 months. However, he was taking large amounts of prescription and over-the-counter medications. According to an autopsy report obtained by the New York Post, one of Perry's friends said, ``In the weeks before his death, Perry had been taking injections of the male hormone testosterone, which made him angry and mean.'' are doing. Fatal doses of ketamine were also detected along with buprenorphine, a similar drug used to treat opioid addiction. He was also known to have used tamoxifen to lose weight, diabetes medication and nicotine candy. An assistant who lived with Perry testified that he used to smoke two packs of cigarettes a day. He said that he had been trying to quit smoking just before his death.
Perry admitted in her 2022 memoir that she "doesn't like" ketamine therapy. While receiving therapy at a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland, he said he felt like he was "dying". However, Dr. Vancall Johnson, a renowned neuroscientist and physician, said of Perry's cause of death, ``There is a strong possibility that ketamine was used recreationally,'' and ``I think giving ketamine to someone using buprenorphine is considered medical treatment.'' The question remains: This is a combination that will cause a catastrophe,'' he told the New York Post newspaper. The cause of death has shocked fans, who were already shocked by his sudden death.
