On the 5th, the U.S. House of Representatives Special Committee on China introduced a bill that would restrict stock ownership in TikTok's parent company, Buydance. The agreement would limit Buyance's ownership of TikTok to 20%, require it to sell the rest to a U.S. company, and if it did not comply, it would be removed from the U.S. app store. The purpose is to improve security in relation to national security and prevent information about American users from being leaked to the Chinese side.
The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee with a unanimous vote of 50-0 on the 7th. President Biden made it clear that he would sign the bill, but just a few hours later, Trump said on his platform Truth Social that eliminating TikTok would mean the expansion of Facebook, which is owned by Meta Platforms. He expressed his opposition, saying that some children would be affected by the ban, even though it simply connects them.
The Washington Post noted that "what's strange is the fact that this bill was originally initiated by the Trump administration."

(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would force the Chinese parent company of video-sharing app TikTok to either sell the app or ban it in the United States. Some say TikTok, which has 170 million users in the United States, is a national security threat.
The bill passed the House of Representatives with 352 votes in favor and 65 votes against. However, it is unclear whether it will be passed by the Senate. Senate Democratic leader Schumer has so far refrained from supporting the bill, while Republican senator Paul and others have expressed opposition.
US President Biden has previously indicated that he would sign the bill if Congress passes it.
Even if the law becomes law, it will still face legal backlash from TikTok and its supporters. In the lead-up to the House ruling, the company had been actively lobbying in Washington, arguing that the bill violated the Constitution's right to freedom of expression.

(Bloomberg): In an interview with Bloomberg Television, the ambassador said, ``It is extremely ironic that Chinese government officials are using the platform 'X' to criticize the United States.'' "We don't give you the right to use X, we don't give you the right to use Instagram, we don't give you the right to use Facebook, we don't give you the right to access Google."
Burns said TikTok and advanced semiconductors are at the center of the U.S.-China conflict, reiterating the Biden administration's hardline stance on China's technology ambitions.
"Technology is in many ways central to the U.S.-China competition, whether it's commercial technology like TikTok, or technology that can be repurposed into military technology to compete with us," he said.
