The 2016–17 ISU Junior Grand Prix will be the 20th season of a series of junior international competitions organized by the International Skating Union. It will be the junior-level complement to the 2016–17 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, in which senior-level skaters will compete. Medals will be awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The season of 2016/2017 Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating has opened today at the French town of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, where there is a requirement for male and female short program.  In the women's field we have to report, however, Lucrezia Gennaro was forced to give up the test because of an injury.  Unknown to the general public, the Russian fourteen Alina Zagitova took first place with 68.07 points (40.80 and 27.27 in the technical components), clearly beating the Japanese Kaori Sakamoto (64.12 points) and Rin Nitaya (60.94 points).  |

Alina Zagitova's combined score (194.37) was close to Polina Tsurskaya's world record (195.28) from the last season. Zagitova concentrated all jumps in the second half of the program. Evgenia Medvedeva did that in the short at the senior level to garner extra points. Zagitova made a balance check at the very end of the long program, which was the only visible mistake. Kaori Sakamoto stepped out of two jumps but her overall performance was elegant and appealing.  Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova won the first stage of the Junior Grand Prix of the French Saint-Gervais. On the sum of the two programs Russian woman on more than twenty points ahead of two Japanese athletes - Kaori Sakamoto and Rin Nitai who took second and third place. 1. Alina Zagitova (RUS) 194.37 2. Kaori Sakamoto (JPN) 178.86 3. Rin Nitaya (JPN) 175.01  The pupil of Eteri Tutberidze, Sergei Dudakov and Daniel Gleyhengauza coped with all the complicated jump elements, including a cascade of a triple lutz, triple ritberger in any program, and the tournament has demonstrated quite confident free skates for debutantes. Another Russian participant Anna Tarusina was not able to participate in the competitions.  |

 The first stage of the Junior "Grand Prix" of figure skating in the French Saint-Gervais was marked by a terrible incident. On the way to the rink minibus carrying athletes and coaches, demolished concrete pillars. The driver and four passengers with various head injuries and leg were taken to hospital.  In the minibus were 14-year-old Latvian singles skater Anzhelika Klyuev, 13-year-old Russian Anna Tarusina and their accompanying coaches. Due to injuries the young skater is not able to start in France.  The winner of the first stage was the 14-year-old Russian woman Alina Zagitova - 194.37. Eteri Tutberidze's pupil was ahead of the nearest rival by 15 points.  |
