In his first speech as president, Trump called for unity, drew a bleak picture of the U.S. today and shared final goodbyes with President Obama. The new president and his wife danced to Frank Sinatra's song "My Way," a far cry from the fires and protests block from parade route earlier. The inauguration of a new president is always a balance between the national legacy and the promise of a fresh start. It is common for the speaker to try to set himself apart. Nevertheless, when Donald John Trump stood for the first time as the 45th President of the United States in a light rain to deliver his address, he went where no president has gone in more than a century. Trump’s message was not on the order of John F. Kennedy’s torch passing, or Ronald Reagan’s declaration that government is the problem. It was not even a 21st century version of Andrew Jackson’s attack on corrupt and incompetent Washington. In 16 mostly harsh, mostly confrontational minutes, Trump laid out a view of America’s destiny and place in the world that would alienate his predecessors dating back to Theodore Roosevelt and beyond.

Let’s start with the most awkward moments of the ceremony...First, there was the extremely cringey moment when Melania Trump handed Michelle Obama a gift wrapped in a large Tiffany’s box and Michelle clearly wasn’t sure what to do with it, which lead to a priceless reaction shot... As far as screen-grab-worthy facial expressions go, Michelle’s look in this moment pretty much takes the cake. Another incredibly awkward moment came when Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, arrived wearing a red, white, and blue Gucci coat that inspired some hilarious tweets comparing her look to everyone from the New England Patriots’ mascot to Paddington Bear... No offense, but Paddington Bear definitely wore it better.

But it wasn’t just the attendees who experienced some awkward moments--President Trump enjoyed alike that incredibly awkward non-kiss between him and wife Melania as he took the stage for his inaugural speech… And speaking of Trump’s speech, the most meme-able moment came when he accidentally quoted Bane--the villain from Batman: The Dark Knight Rises--at one point. And of course, the Internet noticed and did not let him live that one down... Other funny memes were inspired by former Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, thanks to her “I am SO over this” expression at one point during the ceremony... And one shot of Hillary’s face as she got out of her vehicle for the event even prompted one amazing reaction meme that read QUOTE, “Getting out of your Uber at the club and immediately seeing your ex” That meme is just too accurate to handle. Other tweeters posted more general memes expressing their general feelings towards Trump’s inauguration, which showcased some clever and hilarious photoshopping skills… No matter what happens during the next four years, at least we can count on the internet to have a sense of humor about it!

Jackie Evancho on Trump Inauguration Performance Backlash Prior to news of Evancho’s presidential performance, the singer’s Feb. 12 concert at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts — part of the venue’s season announcement in June — had sold about 900 tickets. After the Dec. 14 announcement of her inauguration performance on NBC’s “Today” show, the pace of ticket sales increased noticeably, a Cerritos Center spokesperson said. More than 1,200 tickets have been sold, leaving fewer than 200 seats in back rows. So far, the center said, it has received neither requests for refunds nor complaints about Evancho’s pending performance.
