Leave it to Taylor Swift to host what appears to be one of the best Fourth of July parties this year. The "Style" singer opened up her Rhode Island home to likes of Gigi Hadid and her reported boyfriend Joe Jonas—who Swift previously dated—Nick Jonas, the Haim sisters, "Empire" actress Serayah, Victoria's Secret model Martha Hunt, the pop star's brother Austin Swift, and her good pal Ed Sheeran. Taylor Swift celebrates the 4th of July with friends in Rhode Island. "When Ed shows up in a red coat for the 4th of July because he just can't let it go," she captioned a photo of her holding an American flag next to a stoic Sheeran, wearing shades and a military style coat with the tag still on it. The 25-year-old singer first began posting photos on Friday of her star-studded bash, which included a sweet photo of her honey Calvin Harris carrying her on his back as she nuzzled her face affectionately on the side of his head. "Friendly relations between Scotland and America," she captioned the pic. The Scottish DJ later posted a photo of Swift at the grill and wrote, "She cooks too." On Saturday, she also shared a photo of her and her besties making a flag cake.

Naomi Oakes has some bad blood and she's hoping to enlist Taylor Swift to help her beat it. On June 25 the 11-year-old from the state of Arizona was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, a condition in which an overproduction of immature white blood cells crowds out the production of normal blood cells. Naomi now will need to spend up to the next nine months in hospital undergoing intense therapy, which means missing out on many things including an upcoming Swift concert that she was given tickets to for Christmas. Using the name of her favourite singer’s latest song 'Bad Blood' as an anthem that describes her condition, Naomi’s heartbroken family have released an emotional campaign to recruit the singer to help the youngster fight the cancer. "She was singing on the way to the hospital 'Bad Blood', Taylor Swift's song," Naomi’s dad, Dan, says in the video message posted on YouTube today. The family have appealed for Swift and others to share the hashtag #TeamNaomi to promote a crowdfunding campaign to help her "get rid of the bad blood". Naomi's uncle, Brandon Adams, set up the GoFundMe page to help the family cover medical bills, which are expected to balloon to more than $30,000 over the coming months.

An 11-year-old Arizona girl battling leukemia was left frozen in her place when she was surprised with not only a message signed by her pop star hero, but also a whopping $50,000 donation toward her medical expenses. The emotional moment, captured on video in its entirety, followed Naomi Oakes' June 25 diagnosis which would prevent her from attending Swift's upcoming concert in Phoenix while she'd be hospitalized for the next six to nine months. Naomi's father posted a YouTube video in response, showing his daughter dancing and singing along to Swift's "Bad Blood" single — Naomi's so-called fight song — in hopes the singer would share a #TeamNaomi photo on Instagram. Swift apparently saw it, and went one huge step beyond that. "To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I'm sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts," the note, posted to the girl's GoFundMe account Tuesday, read. "Let's focus on getting you feeling better. I'm sending the biggest hugs to you and your family."

Ahead of the launch of Apple Music, Taylor Swift made headlines when she wrote a scathing open letter to Apple, criticizing its decision not to pay artists for their work during its three-month free trial. Her letter, combined with pushback from indie labels, led Apple to reverse course and opt to pay artists during the three months that customers can listen for free. Record label exec Scott Borchetta, who serves as the head of Big Machine Records and signed Swift when she was 14, recently spoke at Fortune's Brainstorm Tech conference and shared some backstory on the negotiations that eventually led Swift to write the letter. According to Borchetta, he'd been in talks with Apple and told the company that his label couldn't support no compensation during the three-month free trial, but wasn't making headway. Borchetta hadn't spoken to Swift about the negotiations and was caught unawares by her letter, which she didn't clear with her record label. He wasn't angry, though, because her post, as we know, caused Apple to change its policy and made negotiations easier. "She literally texted me and said, 'Don't be mad,' with the link," Borchetta said. "She was in Europe. I responded and said, 'You don't have any idea how good your timing is right now.'" A day after Swift's letter, Borchetta had a conference call with Jimmy Iovine and Eddy Cue, where they capitulated and agreed to the demands of both Swift and many other artists who had been resisting signing on with Apple Music due to the free trial. Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber's manager, was also at the Fortune event and said that Swift's letter gave Apple the push the industry needed to secure a better deal. "Everyone was fighting that fight," he said. "Taylor pushed it over the edge. She made them aware it wasn't just the executives. Sometimes it's good to hear the artists saying it."

The Nationals hosted the Dodgers Friday night, but the game was suspended in the sixth inning after a series of power outages caused lengthy delays. Four banks of lights malfunctioned in the fourth inning of the game, causing an 82-minute delay, and just a few moments after the game restarted the lights failed once again. After the game resumed and the lights failed a third time, the game was suspended. The reason for the malfuctions is unknown, but Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer has a theory. Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour came to Washington D.C. last week, and she performed at Nationals Park during the All-Star break. No “Bad Blood” here: While players on both Major League Baseball teams scheduled to play at Washington D.C.’s Nationals Park on Friday (July 17) joked that Taylor Swift was to blame for a power outage that suspended the Dodgers-Nationals game, the Washington Nationals have cleared the air. The team released a statement via Twitter to reveal the real cause of the baseball field’s lighting problems. The players called out Swift since she had just brought her 1989 World Tour to the field on two dates earlier in the week. But on Saturday, July 18, the Nationals posted an update, pinpointing a faulty circuit breaker as the reason that the lights went out.
