Pop star Taylor Swift is leading the pack for this year's MTV Video Music Awards with nine nominations, followed by Ed Sheeran with six and Beyonce and Mark Ronson with five. Swift's superhero-themed video for Bad Blood is up for video of the year. It will compete with Beyonce's 7/11; Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud; Ronson's Uptown Funk, featuring Bruno Mars, and Kendrick Lamar's Alright. The awards are being held in Los Angeles on 30 August. Swift, whose album 1989 was 2014's best-selling album globally, also earned nominations for her music video Blank Space in the best female video and best pop video categories. The awards show, which hands out Moonman statuettes as its prize, has seen some controversial antics from its stars in recent years. Three British starts are listed in the artists to watch category: George Ezra, FKA Twigs and James Bay, while the other two nominees are American - Vance Joy and Fetty Wap. Ellie Goulding is the only British artist up for best female video, for Love Me Like You Do. She is up against Beyonce's 7/11, Nicki Minaj's Anaconda, Sia's Elastic Heart and Taylor Swift's Blank Face. In the best male category, British artist Ed Sheeran's Thinking Out Loud is competing with The Weekend for Earned It, Nick Jonas's Chains, Lamar's Alright and Ronson's Uptown Funk. The awards show, which began in 1984, will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater, formerly the Nokia Theatre in LA.

Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift had a Twitter exchange of epic proportions on Tuesday. It all started when Nicki criticised the MTV VMAs nominations, saying her racy hit "Anaconda" should have been up for video of the year and best choreography.
Nicki cited the video's popularity to prove her point, explaining how the clip seemed to wield ubiquitous influence upon its release in August 2014.
Then Nicki compared her treatment to that of "other" girls. Taylor, whose "Bad Blood" video broke the Vevo record "Anaconda" previously held, saw Nicki's tweet about "women with very slim bodies" and replied.

It's all been a crazy week for Taylor Swift. This whole shebang with Nicki Minaj happened, and now Katy Perry has confirmed that baby now they have indeed got bad blood, HEY. But despite being busy with all of that and being on a world tour, Tay still took time out to hit Twitter and wish her BFF Selena Gomez a very happy birthday, with the cutest little picture-filled message you ever did see. Although TayTay might be the most popular gal in school these days with a squad that could take on most national armies, Selena has been there right from the beginning, and Swift's tweet proved that their friendship is stronger than ever. "Happy 23rd Birthday, @selenagomez," she wrote. "I can't believe it's been 7 years since we met!! I love you so much, always." Pretty frickin' adorable, right? Plus, this awesome behind the scenes sneaky pic taken from the set of the "Bad Blood" video. At least we think it is, unless they just like dressing up in bondage gear for their pizza and movie nights, too. But probably the best of the bunch was this super cute shot taken at Taylor's celeb-studded birthday party, where it looks as though the two of them were having an absolute blast. Actual Instagram goals, let alone friendship goals.

Nicki Minaj has officially and graciously accepted Taylor Swift 's apology after their Twitter misunderstanding earlier this week. "We're all good," the rapper said prior to her performance on Good Morning America Friday. "I spoke to Taylor Swift yesterday on the phone," Minaj told host Lara Spencer. "She was super, super sweet and she apologized. She said, 'Look, you know I didn't understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it, so we're all good.'" Minaj then provided some back-story for Spencer. "I posted something on my Instagram and it just showed the stats of other videos that had been nominated previously, and it just seemed to be a little funny business going on...'Anaconda' had such a huge cultural impact, and on top of that, we broke the Vevo record. This is actually my third time breaking the Vevo record and 'Anaconda' therefore should have been nominated, and I do think if it was the pop girls, they would have had many nominations for it," she said of similarly scintillating music videos. "I think I got two for 'Anaconda,' for Female and for Hip-Hop, and it should have been for Video of the Year. That's all we were saying, and it is what it is." As Minaj has said several times now, her intention was to call attention to perceived racism regarding the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards nominations. Upset that her "Anaconda" and "Feelin' Myself" music videos were snubbed in major categories, she tweeted, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year." Swift, whose "Bad Blood" music video is nominated for Video of the Year, assumed it was a personal attack, telling the rapper, "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot."

Kelly Clarkson has a serious handle on the sincerest form of flattery. The "Invincible" singer, 33, made her affection for Taylor Swift known this past weekend with a cover of one of the star's biggest songs. Clarkson was playing to a packed crowd at Toronto's Molson Canadian Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 25, when she switched up her usual setlist and broke into a little Swift. Joined by a live band, the American Idol alum busted out a rendition of her fellow pop star's 2014 hit single "Blank Space." Swift was thrilled with Clarkson's cover, tweeting a link to the video of her performance and writing on Sunday, "Kelly Clarkson covered Blank Space and YES." Clarkson quickly responded, tweeting, "girl I've been covering your songs since 'White Horse'! I love them! I wish they would have requested 'Clean' #favorite "
