President Barack Obama pardons the 2013 Thanksgiving turkey, Popcorn.
President Obama, and first daughters Malia and Sasha were on hand to bestow the official presidential pardon on the National Thanksgiving Turkey Wednesday on the North Portico. The National Turkey Federation presented Obama with two broad-breasted white turkeys, Popcorn and Caramel. After a nationwide vote, Popcorn, was selected as the official national turkey while brother Caramel will serve as the alternate.

Here he comes: Popcorn, the 2013 National Thanksgiving Turkey, from Badger, Minn., was officially pardoned at the White House.
Popcorn and Caramel actually spent Tuesday night at The Willard InterContinental Hotel, the swanky digs across from the White House, and the good night’s sleep served them well as they perfectly represented the care of their owner. They will go on display at Mount Vernon, the Virginia estate that belonged to President George Washington, from Nov. 27 to Jan. 6.
President John F. Kennedy reaches out to touch a 40-pound turkey presented to him Nov. 19, 1963, at the White House.
It appears it was John F. Kennedy in 1963. An NBC News archive search found a Los Angeles Times article dated Nov. 20, 1963 with the headline, "Turkey gets presidential pardon." And that turkey was a monster. The paper described it as a "55-pound broad white tom." Despite a sign hanging around the bird's neck that read, "Good eating, Mr. President," Kennedy took a look down at the "frightened, panting bird" and said, "We'll just let this one grow."
