Team Fujisawa (0-2) are playing shorthanded this week as a trio. Skip Satsuki Fujisawa is overseas competing for Japan in the world mixed doubles championship and lead Yurika Yoshida is also out due to injury. Alternate Mari Motohashi has come off of the bench to throw the middle stones with second Yumi Suzuki starting the lineup and third Chinami Yoshida calling the game for the trio. Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa nabbed the eighth and final women’s playoff spot at the Players’ Championship. Team Fujisawa, who earned bronze at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, downed Edmonton’s Team Rocque, skipped by Laura Crocker, 8-3 during Saturday morning’s tiebreaker at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre. Fujisawa advances to the quarterfinals and will face Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones. The defending champion grabbed the top seed with an unblemished 5-0 round-robin record.

Canada's Laura Crocker and Kirk Muyres didn't have much time to feel sorry for themselves after losing the semifinal game at the world mixed doubles curling championship on Saturday in Sweden. After a 7-5 loss to Switzerland to dash their golden dreams, Crocker and Muyres had to regroup and refocus in a hurry and prepare for the bronze medal game against Korea just a couple of hours later.

HIGHLIGHTS: Switzerland v Russia - Gold medal final - World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2018 Switzerland have secured a second successive victory at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship 2018 in Östersund after a battling success over Russia today. Michèle Jäggi and Sven Michel had beaten Canada 7-5 in a repeat of last year's final in this morning's semi-final at the Östersund Arena. They then maintained their form with a superb victory over Russian pair Maria Komarova and Daniil Goriachev, who had prevailed 6-4 over South Korean in their semi-final. Switzerland made the perfect start by scoring three points with the hammer in the opening end. Russia responded with two in the second but the three point deficit was soon restored in the third end when Goriachev rolled out of his final hit.
