PRINCE HARRY had to use all his diplomacy skills to avoid an ugly incident which threatened his three-month sojourn in Africa. Learning that his presence in Namibia without official permission had infuriated a government minister, he abandoned a foot patrol with rhino trackers in the country’s remote north-west, and drove several hours for a face-to-face meeting. Turning up at Etosha National Park in grubby jeans, Harry managed a charm offensive which soon had Pohamba Shifeta happy and smiling. The trouble started while Harry was deep in the bush in the Palmwag tribal lands, learning about de-horning rhinos and talking to community leaders who help to inform on poaching gangs. Mr Shifeta, known as a stickler for ceremony, issued a statement warning him not to turn his trip into a PR exercise. He was angry that Clarence House and Harry’s hosts in Africa, the Save The Rhino Trust, had been boasting of his intention to work on Namibia’s rhino problems, but had omitted to inform the government. A government official, Colgar Sikopo, was instructed to find out where Harry was and what he was doing. Mr Sikopo said: ‘We have a model system here with which we are gradually defeating poachers. We cannot have foreigners – even if they are members of the Royal Family – turning up here and announcing they are going to get involved.’ A member of his staff commented privately that it would be like ‘a foreigner turning up in Windsor Great Park to announce he was working on the Queen’s herd of deer, without asking her permission’.

Don't expect a rekindled romance between Prince Harry and actress Cressida Bonas. Things have changed since Harry hailed the end of his inaugural Invictus Games last September, where Bonas was in the audience of the rock concert that brought the curtain down. The pair were seen on a date in London followed by a day at Wimbledon tennis tournament late last week, where they were photographed snuggling in the smart seats. Holcroft, 26, recently emerged as rising star in the BBC adaptation of the novel Wolf Hall. (Reps for Bonas and Holcroft declined to comment.) Fresh from her successful performance in the West End play An Evening With Lucian Freud, Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas has been treating herself to a luxurious holiday on Necker Island. The 26-year-old actress flew out with her mother Lady Mary Gaye Curzon to celebrate Sir Richard Branson’s 65th birthday on Saturday.

Greece may have begun fraught negotiations over a third bailout deal, but at least Chelsy Davy is doing her bit for its economy. Prince Harry’s perky ex has been advertising Greece’s — and her own — attractions in a picture posted online. Sunbathing in a strapless red bikini and sunglasses aboard a yacht bearing the Greek flag, Chelsy showed off her newly slimmed-down figure. The 29-year-old Zimbabwean, who has yet to find a new job since quitting City law firm Allen & Overy last November, was joined on the boat moored off Greece by two similarly slim chums. At least Chelsy’s hard at work on something — her suntan.

Cressida Bonas may be smitten with her hunky boyfriend Edward Holcroft – but it seems her parents don’t yet share her enthusiasm. I’m told that Cressie is furious with her family over their reluctance to meet the handsome Wolf Hall star amid claims they are still hoping she will rekindle her romance with Prince Harry. Cressie, 26, and Ed confirmed their blossoming relationship by making a very public, touchy-feely appearance at Wimbledon a couple of weeks ago. The pair have been dating since June, and there seems little to dislike about the dashing actor, who played Anne Boleyn’s brother George in the BBC’s acclaimed Tudor drama. Sources say that budding actress Cressie is desperate to introduce Ed, 27, to her father Jeffrey Bonas and her mother Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon, and has taken great offence at their indifference. Apart from meeting her mother for lunch at a top Chelsea restaurant last week, I’m told that Cressie’s exchanges with her parents in recent weeks have been fleeting. A close family friend says: ‘Cressida is upset with her parents because neither have met Ed. Mary and Jeffrey are divorced, but they get on well and adore Cressida – but they are not convinced she should be with an actor. I think they feel actors tend to be flighty and non-committal. ‘Cressie is really into Ed and desperately wants her parents to meet him and for them to approve. She has been giving them the full silent treatment.’

The prince previously admitted he is a big fan of the sex and violence-filled drama. Now bosses of the HBO hit want him to appear in the next series. But Harry, now fifth in line to the throne after the birth of his niece Charlotte, has yet to make up his mind. A source said: “Harry has been offered a cameo in the sixth series of Game Of Thrones, which starts filming in Northern Ireland this summer. “At the moment he’s not made a decision but the offer is on the table. “There are plenty of opportunities for him to take up a role.” Producers are said to be “desperate” for Harry to commit to a guest appearance and show creators DB Weiss and David Benioff hope the prince can fit filming into his busy schedule. The source said: “The show is huge and there are plenty of A-listers queuing up for a cameo. “But the creators won’t offer one to just anyone. Harry is a big fan and loves the show. To have him on would be TV gold.” It is not known what part Harry would play in the adventure, which is the most popular drama series in the US, attracting almost 20million viewers there.
