Like many members of royalty, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ancestry crosses paths. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex might have had two very different upbringings, but their bloodline shows that they are in fact, distant cousins. The Queen Mother and Thomas Markle’s (Meghan Markle’s father) ancestor, Ralph Bowes (1480-1518) is Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather. Bowes was the High Sheriff of County Durham and his family seat was Streatlam Castle in England’s North East region. According to reports, Bowes’ grandson, Christopher Hussey moved to America in 1632 and was one of the founders of Nantucket, Massachusetts. His great-grandson, Sir George Bowes worked in parliament during King Charles II’s reign and is a distant grandparent of Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, the Queen Mother. When Elizabeth Bowes Lyon married King George VI, she linked the royal family to the Bowes family tree, thus creating a future connection between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In November, Kensington Palace confirmed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be moving to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Castle grounds ahead of the birth of their first child this spring. But in the meantime, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been living primarily in a rented house in the Cotswolds — and now, courtesy of the British tabloids, we finally get to have a peek at their home. In a pic published by the tabloids, we can see the back of Meghan and Prince Harry’s rented home, a £2.5 million (or $3.2 million USD) farmhouse in the Oxfordshire hills. The image is from 2011 (so, long before they lived in the house) and was “published on a freely-accessible and public document,” according to the Sun.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s baby may not be called Royal Highness — thanks to his or her great-great-grandparent. King George V introduced a rule in 1917 that means their baby will need special permission from the Queen to become an HRH. http://instagram.com/p/BsDoezqhrNq Only the eldest son of the Queen’s first-born, Prince Charles, is entitled to be an HRH — no younger sons or daughters. But in December 2012, before Prince William and Kate Middleton had their first child, Prince George, the Queen used the Letters Patent so she could give all of their children an HRH title. The Letters Patent is a method that allows the sovereign to give orders without involving Parliament. The Queen has yet to grant special permission for Harry and Meghan’s first child to be an HRH.

The Duchess of Sussex surprised students as she arrived at City University in London. Meghan, who looked blooming beautiful, was carrying out her first official engagement as patron of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Meghan was given the patronage from the Queen earlier this month and on Thursday, she looked thrilled to be meeting students from all over the Commonwealth. The Duchess visited City University – one of the ACU's 500 university members – where she met a group of students and academics. As a university graduate, Meghan is a strong advocate of education for all and supports the ACU's aim to promote inclusion and provide education for underrepresented groups. See the best photos from Meghan's day out…
