Even a casual Taylor Swift observer knows that there’s no style statement that the singer loves more than a great red lip. In fact, it doesn’t surprise us to find out (via the video below) that she usually chooses her outfit based on her red lipstick of the day. So when we got to chat with Swift at a Glendale, Calif. event to celebrate Keds-wearing style icons (as well as Swift’s own collection for the line) we had to ask: How many red lipsticks does she actually have? “I don’t have an excessive amount! I just find one I like and use it,” she tells PEOPLE. “Right now [I'm using] Dragon Girl by NARS … I’ll go through different phases with makeup and always try new things. Except I never really get too far from red lipstick, do I? I guess I just think my face looks worse without it. That’s pretty much the only rationale behind it.” We also asked about her affinity for high-heeled Oxfords (she swears she doesn’t have as many as we think!) and she explained that she likes the normality of the style in an industry that’s all about the six-inch stiletto. “I really like an oxford high heel for kind of looking more like either a student or like you’re going to work,” she says, laughing. “I don’t know, there’s something [that gives me some normality]. That’s what I kind of like to channel when I’m wearing them.” Swift spoke to Teen Vogue editor Andrew Bevan about her own style at the Keds Style Icons event at the Nordstrom at The Americana at Brand and she tells PEOPLE that she’s confident enough in her own style — and so are her many star BFFs — that she rarely shares clothes. “The one common thread between [my friends] is they know who they are and they’re very sure of who they are,” she says. “We don’t usually have the same style. If they see me wearing something, they know it’s because that’s something that represents me and they’ll wear something very different … It doesn’t really affect the conversation, what we’re wearing.”

Taylor Swift is back in another campaign for Keds shoes, featuring her long, long legs, and the brand’s signature sneakers, of course. The new campaign is called “The Making of an Icon.” Over the years, the brand says Ked’s shoes have been wore by more than just kids and teens. It claims Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and even former First Lady Jackie Kennedy were fond of the brand. Swift has repped for Keds for the past couple of years, and the deal has been a win-win for her. It not only burnishes her image to be associated with such a wholesome brand, but her budding movie career gets a nice boost in the latest effort. The shoot was conducted at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, and Taylor looks every bit the young Hollywood ingenue. She’s making her feature film debut playing a character other than herself in the upcoming movie “The Giver.” Swift plays a character named Rosemary. Although her part is small, Noyce insists it’s an important role and Swift is more than just eye-candy. The film hits theaters, Aug 15. Taylor’s Keds campaign plays off the brand’s celebrity connection. “The women in history who played a huge role in shaping my fashion are the women who have famously worn Keds throughout the years,” Swift said in a statement. The singer/songwriter also had a hand in designing 11 shoe styles based on Keds’ Champion sneaker.

Taylor Swift doesn't own a house in the Hamptons—yet. She does visit here sometimes: last year she cooked with Ina Garten and dined with Steven Spielberg at East Hampton Grill. She also apparently shot a commercial for Keds on the DL at the Surf Lodge. Here she is swinging in the Surf Lodge's wicker chairs, dancing, shopping, and generally being Tayloriffic. Taylor Swift is one of the most high-profile celebrities out there today, so it's no surprise that many speculate about every aspect of her life. Thankfully, T.Swift has shown that she's an open book, and not only when it comes to her music. As Keds launches their new spring campaign "Own Your Style," the songstress sits down with Marie Claire senior fashion editor Zanna Roberts Rossi to own up to everything—from style to risks to romance.
