The "butler" of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is in Vietnam ahead of a summit meeting with US President Donald Trump set for next week. During his visit to the capital city of Hanoi, the de-facto chief of staff Kim Chang-son, has been seen checking out potential summit venues. Kim Jong-un will meet Mr Trump on 27-28 February for a planned second meeting. Their first meeting, in Singapore last June, was the first time the two countries' serving leaders had met. Who is Kim Chang-son? A close aide of Kim Jong-un, Kim Chang-son, who has previously been referred to by South Korean media as the "butler" to the North Korean leader, arrived in Vietnam over the weekend. Kim Chang-son is currently the country's de-facto chief of staff, but has been in the Kim family's employ for many years. According to NK Leadership Watch, he was previously the director and chief secretary of the National Defence Commission. He was also Kim Jong-un's chief aide, and was responsible for his schedule and itineraries.

Ahead of a summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un, Vietnam has deported a man who impersonates the North Korean leader. Howard X, a Hong Kong resident who is a Kim Jong Un lookalike, and Trump impersonator Russell White were detained by authorities during a TV interview last week after staging a fake summit, the BBC reports. "Both Russell and I are annoyed at being monitored 24/7, but at the same time honored that the government felt that we as impersonators were considered important enough for them to spend their resources keeping tabs on us," Howard X said on Facebook. Monday, Vietnamese officials sent Howard X out of the country because he said his visa was invalid. White was permitted to stay, but was asked to stop impersonating Trump in public, Agence France-Presse reports.

Kim and Trump shook hands and smiled briefly in front of a row of their countries' flags at the Metropole hotel in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi. Trump told reporters he thought the talks would be very successful, while he was “not walking back on denuclearization". Asked if he would declare a formal end to the Korean War, Trump said: “We’ll see.” Kim said they had overcome obstacles to hold the summit in Vietnam and had needed patience since their first meeting in Singapore last year. He said he hoped these talks would be successful.
