The United States women’s national team is on a celebratory whip for the ages, from partying in the locker room after winning back-to-back World Cup titles to the current swing through media appearances back home. Arguably no one has more to comment on than superstar Megan Rapinoe, who not only won the World Cup golden treble but struck a harsh note with President Donald Trump and didn’t step back from it. In fact, during an appearance with Alex Morgan at ESPN on Tuesday, she said it was a positive thing and put the moment into perspective. “I think we know who won that,” Morgan said. “Yeah. I held up my end of the bargain on that one,” added Rapinoe. Rapinoe stays silent during the singing of the national anthem to protest injustice and inequality, something she’s done since 2016 and has spoken about in detail. Trump has said he doesn’t believe it’s appropriate. She is, in her words, “a walking protest” and is vocal for causes she believes in. It’s in part why she has said she won’t go to the celebration at the White House. Then months-old footage was released prior to the match against France that prompted a rant by Trump on Twitter.

Megan Rapinoe visited Anderson Cooper 360 on Tuesday night. As usual, Cooper was prepared to interview his guest, as he discussed several subjects with Rapinoe during their 30-minute interview. But there was one topic that left him completely flabbergasted.
Cooper asked Rapinoe, who is lesbian, what it was like growing up. ”I understand that you came out in college to friends and family publicly later on,” said Cooper, adding, “Was that a difficult process for you, being a teenager?”
Rapinoe responded, “It wasn't difficult for me in the moment, I didn't realize it until I got to college.” Cooper was shocked by her response. A shocked Cooper asked, “I knew when I was 6, how could you not know as a teenager?”
Rapinoe seemed to get a kick out of his reaction. She admitted that her late awakening was “shocking,” even to her.

Soccer star Megan Rapinoe urged President Donald Trump “to do better for everyone,” criticizing his Make America Great Again message for “excluding people,” as she spoke out in an interview days after her team’s record-breaking victory in the 2019 Women’s World Cup.
“Your message is excluding people. You’re excluding me, you’re excluding people that look like me, you’re excluding people of color, you’re excluding, you know, Americans that maybe support you,” Rapinoe, who is gay, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an interview Tuesday night, when asked about her message to the President.
“You’re harking back to an era that wasn’t great for everyone. It might have been great for a few people, and maybe America is great for a few people right now, but it’s not great for enough Americans in this world.”
“I think that we have a responsibility, each and every one of us. You have an incredible responsibility as, you know, the chief of this country, to take care of every single person, and you need to do better for everyone,” she added.

The 2019 ESPY Awards, which stands for “Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award,” and is not a misspelling of Etsy like I originally thought, took place last night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, who won the 2019 World Cup, also took home the award for Best Team. Frankly, there should’ve been a separate category for Megan Rapinoe’s short suit, because I am in awe. Let’s take a closer look at the full ensemble, shall we? From top to bottom: her lavender locks, her open-breasted blazer top (satin lapels! no shirt!), those leather shorts, the white socks that very well could’ve come from Costco for all I know, those flat black oxfords. She has somehow made sexy the stupid shit AC/DC used to wear. In addition to being a modern day hero, I’m brave enough to reveal, she has become a style icon. I am moved. And I am now on the hunt for pleather shorts. They’re appropriate for no weather, but they look incredible nonetheless. Plus, I’m sure when you’re as talented as these women, you don’t get swamp ass. And if that’s not the American Dream, I don’t know what is.

Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe from the USA Women's Soccer Team talk about winning the World Cup, why the team is so good, fighting for equal pay, their victory coming at the perfect time, and since they won't be visiting the White House, Jimmy surprises them with the Donald Trump fast food treatment.
Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, the co-captains of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, may not be celebrating their World Cup victory at the White House anytime soon.
So, on Thursday, late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel laid on a party for the pair, styled like past celebrations President Donald Trump has thrown for sports heroes at the White House.
