Mary Trump followed her cordial Wednesday night interview with Stephen Colbert with a Thursday morning appearance on The View. Thanks to Meghan McCain, this one had much sharper edges.
President Donald Trump’s niece spent the first few minutes of the interview answering questions about the revelations in her new best-selling book Too Much and Never Enough. But when it was McCain’s turn to speak, she was lightning quick to make the interview about herself.
“Look, I think I made it clear to your publishers, I don’t like books like this,” McCain told her. “I don’t like family tell-all books, especially when it comes to families with fame and power. They’re told from the one side, and often the subjects are villainized to the point that I don’t actually end up believing the stuff written. There have been books written about my family, which are complete and total garbage, told from a skewed perspective.”
“At the end of the day, you get a really great paycheck out of it, but I don’t think it’s that legitimate,” she continued. “What do you say to people like me who think this is just a great way for you to get a paycheck right now?”
“Well, you’re entirely entitled to your opinion,” Mary Trump replied. But for anyone who has “read the book,” the author said, she hoped that “you see that I bring to the story my very deep experience within the family,” adding, “I’m not some stranger writing it. I’m his niece.”
McCain seized on the fact that Mary Trump has said she doesn’t have a close relationship with her much younger cousins, Don Jr., Eric and Ivanka. “I know in my family—and my family is clearly nothing like the Trumps—but the people who are close, are close,” she said. “I certainly have extended family who I don’t interact with, or certainly only interact with at funerals and things like that. So I don't think people like that would know the inner workings of my immediate family dynamic in the way that you present it.”

When Goldberg announced McCain was not going to be on the show, fans took to Twitter to share their theories as to why she had skipped the episode. Could it be that she was embarrassed after the on-air spat? http://instagram.com/p/B8z6z27nZ_u “Knew crazy Meghan would be gone today after her behavior yesterday,” a fan tweeted. “Thank you for giving Meghan a day off before she blew a fuse,” a viewer added. “Wonderful episode without Meghan McCain,” a Twitter user noted. “I heard everyone’s viewpoint without loud, obnoxious sighs, interruptions, and eye rolls. Please keep this up.” “Was so happy to hear that Meghan McCain would NOT be on today’s show,” another fan commented. “I can’t stand her ‘Karen’ personality and whining. Good riddance.” http://instagram.com/p/B_97E0DHQkG “Meghan misses another day and owes [an] apology,” another viewer suggested. “Please make her days off permanent. We need both sides but not from someone who acts like a toddler throwing a tantrum.” “Apparently yesterday was too much for Meghan and she doesn’t apologize, so a day off it is,” another Twitter user said. “Meghan McCain must have gotten really mad yesterday. I would have actually enjoyed her trying to defend Bill Barr today,” another fan added.

Meghan McCain from The View is a controversial figure on the morning talk show. The conservative co-host often clashes with her fellow panelists and she recently feuded with the legend, Whoopi Goldberg. Following the on-air spat going viral, many expected McCain to apologize to the EGOT recipient, but that never happened and the show is now on hiatus.
The ladies of The View don’t often agree on issues which leads to riveting television. On the episode that aired on July 28, McCain and Goldberg starred in a tense moment that happened during the live broadcast.
Goldberg brought up the “Challenged Accepted” viral trend that had celebrities posting black and white pictures of themselves. The purpose of the digital campaign was to support women’s empowerment.
When McCain talked on the issue she veered the topic to the Women’s March co-presidents and it all kicked off.
“As a conservative woman, there’s always a level of skepticism because we are never invited into circles, traditionally,” McCain said. “In the Women’s March, we were literally not invited to join and told to stay home if you’re pro-life.”
McCain continued, “It ended up being that the leaders of the Women’s March had strong ties to Farrakhan and a lot of anti-Semitic, and in my opinion, extremely problematic and controversial views.”
Goldberg interjected and corrected McCain noting that only “one of the women had strong ties,” to Farrakhan, not both.
“Well, you can watch the tape of me interviewing them on the show and make your own decision,” McCain snapped.
“Yeah, I was there,” Goldberg fired back.
“You were not,” McCain clapped back.
McCain continued to be adamant that she was right, while Goldberg pushed back on her claims. It turns out that the latter was correct, video of the interview resurfaced and proved Goldberg was at the table on January 14, 2019.

Meghan McCain is one happy mama. The View co-host shared the first photo of daughter Liberty Sage McCain Domenech on Wednesday. The baby girl was wrapped in a pink blanket and sleeping peacefully on her mom, who was seated outside among some flowers. “Bliss,” is all Meghan wrote along with a heart and the Statue of Liberty emoji, likely having returned to New York City after being in Virginia amid the pandemic and the birth of her first child, on Sept. 28. Meghan’s mom, Cindy, was a guest host on The View this week, subbing for her daughter, and told viewers Liberty is “beautiful. She's just perfect. And they're so happy. She's the first little girl in the family so I'm very excited about that. They're just doing really well; Meghan couldn't be happier, and [Meghan's husband Ben Domenech], as well. The two new parents that are just enjoying every second of it."
