Pop star Liam Payne has called Zayn Malik's departure from One Direction a "disaster" but praised fans for helping both sides come out of it unscathed. Zayn quit the group during the Asian leg of their world tour in March (15) in a bid to live a "normal" life, and he has since moved to America to work on solo material and called off his engagement to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards. "One Direction was never really Zayn's bag if you know what I mean," Liam tells U.K. TV show Good Morning Britain. "His taste in music was a bit different and I guess that's what drove him to do what he did in the end, which is not necessarily a bad thing. "Everyone's come out fine from it, thanks to our beautiful fans. And he's off doing what he loves as well, so both parties are winners in the end of a disaster of a situation. It's all good.

On the very same day they released ‘Perfect,’ One Direction serenaded and surprised everyone at their Oct. 16 Dublin concert by performing the new single for the first time ever. The boys of One Direction are truly perfect. They dropped their new single, “Perfect,” on Oct. 16 and performed it live for the first time just hours later! As expected, it sounds even better live. Taylor Swift, 25, would be very pleased. We’re pretty sure everyone in the audience at 1D’s On The Road Again concert in Dublin was swooning over this performance. Watching the boys sing their verses live is just surreal. Liam Payne, 22, probably made girls faint while singing and pointing fingers to lucky audience members. Louis Tomlinson, 23, and Niall Horan, 22, were adorable, as usual. Harry Styles, 21, belted out those high notes, and it was just everything.

One Direction’s concert in Belfast, Northern Ireland, was canceled Tuesday after Liam Payne fell “suddenly ill,” according to a statement from band reps. “Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow,” the statement continues. “The band apologize to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible.” Band members Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson chimed in on Twitter, adding their apologies to fans and, in Tomlinson’s case, wishing Payne well. “Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast,” Styles tweeted. “Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We’re very sorry.” Echoed Horan: “So sorry we have had to cancel tonight guys. Unfortunately these things happen … Thank you to all who came down tonight!” Added Tomlinson, “We’re so so sorry for what happened tonight, it was out of our control! Lots of love to Liam and thank you for being so understanding!”

One Direction released their music video for “Perfect” last night with no warning, but for those of us who work at Teen Vogue, that wasn’t the only only surprise. Our former colleague Dana Mathews — who spent years booking the coolest celebrities for our covers before taking her talents to GQ — made a major cameo. A minute in, Liam goes in for a hug with one lucky lady. “Sophia?!” we all collectively gasped, assuming the shiny brown hair belonged to his longtime girlfriend. But nope! It was Dana. Our Dana. Because it’s not every day you know One Direction’s latest video girl, we begged her to tell us everything and because she’s the sweetest, she agreed. The shoot took place on in Manhattan on September 11, and she got a head’s up from the boys' publicist (and her close pal) just a few weeks prior. Dana got to know One Direction back in 2013 when they posed for our cover in a haunted estate in Birmingham, England (OK, so it was never confirmed to be haunted but still, that’s the kind of experience that bonds you for life, whether you’re in a world-famous boy band or not).

Ever noticed a cute, stylish and slightly alarming rainbow coloured teddy bear sitting side of stage at One Direction's gigs? A bit confused about where he's come from and why he seems to show up with his twin at every concert? Ever dreamed about where he gets his snazzy leather gillets from? Well wonder no more, as the mysteries of the elusive Rainbow Bondage Bear have finally been answered by the boys themselves, as they were quizzed about the infamous RBB in a recent interview. If you're a bit confused right now, Rainbow Bondage Bear, commonly thought to be the greatest enigma of our time, sits himself quietly in the stage scaffolding of every One Direction show, surveying the crowd while showing off his increasingly fabulous accessory game. And if you missed out on seeing them together during 1D's Take Me Home Tour and couldn't wangle a ticket to 99.7 NOW!'s Triple Ho Show earlier this week, these 12 glorious pictures from the event might have to make up for it. Yes yes OK so it doesn't quite make up for being able to smell them in the flesh and be within a 1 mile radius of Harry Styles' incredible shirt collection, but it does mean you have extra ogling material for the time being.
