After touring relentlessly for the past four years, One Direction are set to put their feet up in 2016. And Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne opened up about their imminent hiatus when they appeared on Alan Carr's Chatty Man which will air on Friday evening. Harry, 21, dispelled rumours he's recorded a solo album while Louis, 23, confirmed the break will last no longer than 18 months which will no doubt provide some light relief for devout Directioners. Meanwhile, Louis - who is to become a first-time father in spring next year - insisted the former X Factor band will be returning to the stage in under two years' time. 'You are not going to be away for too long are you? Not years and years?' the comedian inquired to which he replied: 'No. Let’s give it 18 months.'

Looks like One Direction have found their new fifth member: James Corden. In what may be his best Carpool Karaoke yet, “The Late Late Show” host, and the guys of 1D cruise around Los Angeles. James actually fits in quite well with the group, harmonizing perfectly, showing off his rap skills and even hitting Zayn’s epic high note in “Best Song Ever,” that left all the guys a bit stunned. “One person you’ve got to go on a cruise with for a year, sharing a room. You spend every minute of every day with them, but you do not sleep with them. One of them you marry, and the other one you just sleep with one time,” Corden explained. “So, Niall, your three are Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez and Tina Fey.”

Harry Styles rang in the New Year on a luxury yacht with Kendall Jenner, but you'd never have guessed that if you watched Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest along with most of America. In a performance that was sneakily pre-recorded, One Direction bid a fond farewell to 2015 — and, in a larger sense, their fans — with three of their best songs. It marked their last TV performance for at least a year and a half (!!!), and they put on the show of a lifetime (that said, hopefully it won't be the last show of their lifetime...repeat after us: break, not breakup). They started with a perfect rendition of "Perfect, followed by "Drag Me Down," and as if our bruised hearts weren't sufficiently dragged down after all of that, they finished with "History." The whole band gave it their all, but Niall was absolutely having the time of his life. 2016 goals for sure.

As if the thought of a 'Forever Young' music video existing but being locked up somewhere in the Syco vaults isn't harrowing enough, One Direction actually filmed a vid for 'Infinity' before the fans kicked off about the single choice. And guess what? Some unseen footage is now on the interweb and we have two words: WHAT HIATUS? So basically you know how the boys were gonna release 'Infinity' as the third single from Made in the A.M. before the insane reaction to 'History' made 'em change their minds? Well they had a video ready to go and everything. Oh, and some of it was even hidden away in the lads' X Factor final performance screen visuals. Sneaky little hobbitses. Also they're in front of a massive mural showing some sketches of the boys' best moments and it's all cute and adorable. Essentially we reckon the reason they didn't release it anyway is 'cos it'd cause the entire fandom to cry throughout the Christmas break and beyond; something they deemed a bit unfair tbh.
