The pop star's newly released makeup line has been the talk of the town since its official release earlier this month. Beauty vloggers like Manny Mua, Nikkie Tutorials and Huda Kattan have tested the numerous products on their respective YouTube channels, with mostly positive reviews. However, YouTuber Patrick Starrr's video is getting a lot of attention for all the wrong reasons. In his Sept. 6 video, the vlogger took viewers through the products he received in the Rare Beauty PR package, explaining his thoughts on the quality of the makeup as he applied it. While this is par for the course, people were disappointed that Patrick frequently compared Rare Beauty items to those from his Sephora collection One/Size. For example, at one point the YouTuber literally swatched his liquid eyeliner and Rare's next to each other, before declaring, "I think I prefer mine over Rare. That's just me." http://instagram.com/p/CEqQIA9jfK0 In his Sept. 6 video, the vlogger took viewers through the products he received in the Rare Beauty PR package, explaining his thoughts on the quality of the makeup as he applied it. While appearing at the virtual Teen Vogue Summit on Saturday, the 28-year-old star opened up about how learning about herself inspired her long-awaited third studio album, Rare, and her new beauty brand of the same name.
"The whole theme of my last album was a lot of self-discovery, a lot of being OK, being alone and being vulnerable, being OK with not looking like everything else, like everyone else," she said during a panel. "And I think for me, there’s so much that I want my brand [Rare Beauty] to feel like."
Gomez also noted that feeling comfortable with oneself can take a lot of work, explaining that to believe in one's dreams "requires a check-in with yourself."
"Why do you want to do the things that you're doing. Are you going to be able to show up for those things? Are you patient with yourself? There are so many questions that you have to ask yourself," the singer said. "But at the same time, it's equally as important to surround yourself with people who are the ones that are challenging you, the ones that are believing in you, because like I said earlier, there's a lot of people, even to this day that, you know, say 'no' to me, and even when nobody you know what I mean it's, you know, when I was younger, I had so many reasons to stop."
Gomez added, "I had so many reasons to not pick myself up and just keep going… But what I could never let go of, was how much I believed in myself and believed in what I was doing."
"When I was younger I was lucky enough to find my passion and from that point on I kind of had to go with it no matter what happened because of that a lot of people told me no, a lot of people said that I wasn’t able to do it or I wasn’t capable," she explained.
"To be honest, there are still people to this day that I think say that and the only thing I can say is the theme of everything I do is good quality," Gomez shared. "I want to make sure the stuff that I have — whether it’s all the business stuff to my other work acting and singing it’s important for me to be authentic and to connect to something, otherwise it seems a bit pointless to me. But the payoff is amazing."

Selena Gomez showed off her makeup artistry skills in a new glowing Rare Beauty campaign. To celebrate the launch of the brand's Stay Vulnerable Collection, which consists of easy-to-wear Liquid Eyeshadows, Melting Blushes and Glossy Lip Balms, Gomez, 28, decided to do her own glam for the photoshoot led by photographer Petra Collins. http://instagram.com/p/CJzktYVH18i "I wanted to do my own makeup for the shoot," the star told Vogue. "I wanted to capture the soft, flushed look we get when we feel the most vulnerable, and I wanted the images to capture that essence." Gomez described the collection of cream-based formulas as a way to achieve "the soft, flushed look." "I love how easy these formulas are — easy to apply, easy to wear, easy to get a fresh look that lets your real self shine through," she said on Instagram. http://instagram.com/p/CJzXOw9n04u This isn't the only time Gomez has done her own makeup for a major photoshoot. When coronavirus safety measures left her without her go-to makeup artist for an Allure cover shoot, the singer and entrepreneur took matters into her own hands. "I had never done that before," Gomez told Allure. She admitted that doing her own makeup for such a high-profile photoshoot had her feeling "a little stressed," but working with cosmetics she created herself (and some creative direction from longtime makeup artist Hung Vanngo) made it a little bit easier. "I was definitely proud to be wearing [Rare Beauty]. I was just like, 'I hope I did this right,'" the star said. http://instagram.com/p/CJ1CQmWnK62 The "Ice Cream" singer told PEOPLE that she's been spending her time at home during quarantine to decompress from the stress of life by experimenting with her Rare Beauty products. "I've had so much fun just randomly trying my products and doing makeup. I find that it's actually kind of therapeutic," Gomez told PEOPLE. "When you're being filmed and there's a lot of pressure, sometimes I'm nervous. But when I'm with myself and playing with makeup it's so much fun."

Billie Eilish was seen sporting Selena Gomez's new Rare Beauty line, and the "Lose You To Love Me" singer was "low key freaking out" about it. On Monday, Gomez shared Eilish's March 2021 Vanity Fair cover on her Instagram Story, writing, "Icon @billieilish is wearing @rarebeauty on the cover of vanity fair!! Low key freaking out…😊 You look stunning!" Gomez, 28, reposted the photo from makeup artist Robert Rumsey, who used her newly launched brand to give the "Bad Guy" singer, 19, a natural look complete with dewy skin, mascara and a flushed lip. Gomez released her very first makeup line in September that includes an array of lip products, blush, luminizer and foundation and concealer, which comes in a diverse range of shades. This is not the first time the Disney Channel alum has fangirled over Eilish. During an interview with Zane Lowe earlier this year, Gomez opened up about why Eilish is one of her favorite artists. "First, I'll say just the understanding she has – even her song "Xanny" — she already knows," Gomez said. "She's so aware of what this industry can be and become." She continued, speaking about Billie's song "Everything I Wanted," and how she felt connected to it.

Selena Gomez has just achieved what many celebrities only dream of. Earlier today, she announced a stunning new Vogue cover–her second in the past year. First starring on the December issue of Vogue Mexico, Sel is now the face of the US publication's April issue. http://instagram.com/p/CMM1a26lsyR Though isn't her first Vogue cover, it's without a doubt one of her best. True to the pandemic era norm, Selena was photographed in her own backyard, surrounded by palm trees and lively blooms. She did the accompanying interview wearing "an oversized Nirvana shirt and black leggings and a ponytail," but the pop star smashed the glamour button hard for the cover shoot. http://instagram.com/p/CMNX1SEBBtP Selena embodied that rich auntie aesthetic, gazing at the camera draped in inky feathers and sparkling floral embroidery. Her makeup was neutral, but elegant (all Rare Beauty, of course) and her hair fell into effortless waves, as though she actually did wake up like this. It's a level of beauty I will be striving to achieve the rest of my life.
