In the United States, BLACKPINK is probably most known for their song “Ice Cream.” Listening to the track, it’s no wonder why it appealed to American audiences. The song has elements of hip-hop and pop instrumentation that make it sound right at home on American radio. Perhaps “Ice Cream” sounds the way it does because two American pop icons co-wrote it. According to AllMusic, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande co-wrote the track alongside Bekuh BOOM, Tommy Brown, Steven Franks, and Victoria Monét. Gomez is a featured artist on the track. According to Billboard, she had plenty to say about BLACKPINK. “I’m so excited,” Gomez said. “The girls are so cool, and I love their music. I just think that they know… They have this thing about them… I had such a good time with them over FaceTime.” Variety reports Gomez had plenty to say about the song itself as well. “It’s definitely a joyful thing,” she opined. “Being a part of it brought me joy. It’s hopefully what everybody else will get from it too. I just want people to feel good. I have a 7-year-old sister, and just to see her dancing to it — she hasn’t been able to go to school, and just seeing how much fun it can be, it was such a highlight.” http://instagram.com/p/CEKGrWGjekX Grande commented she wrote the track with some “awesome friends.” According to Elite Daily, Grande celebrated the release of the “Ice Cream” video by sending Gomez a bouquet of flowers arranged resemble an ice cream cone. Grande may not sing on “Ice Cream,” but the song blends genres, like many of Grande’s greatest hits.

Selena Gomez is getting candid about the power of female friendship in her own self-acceptance journey. She sat down for an interview with CR Fashion Book and didn't hold back when it came to her feelings about social media and its ability to pit women against one another.
"My girlfriends are everything to me and we’ve been there for each other through so many things together. I refuse to buy into this idea that women are competitive and can’t support each other," she told the outlet, adding, "I think it comes from their fear of women sticking together because there’s nothing we can’t accomplish when we have each other’s backs. I have to say, in the entertainment business, I feel like we all are happy for each other’s successes and celebrate any and all victories other women accomplish because it’s a victory for all of us."
Gomez, who confirmed she's filming season 2 of her HBO Max quarantine cooking series Selena + Chef, went on to discuss how social media has impacted her self-worth. "Over the last several years I have worked very hard learning to be more comfortable in my own skin and accept the things I used to be hard on myself. The road to self-acceptance isn’t an easy one and trust me I still have my moments," she told the outlet. "My generation grew up just as social media was becoming a way for everyone to communicate with each other. At the beginning I saw it as just a fun way to post pictures and stay in touch with people, and then you realized it started to play with your mind and your self-worth. Once you can separate the two and know your worth isn’t connected to that world it’s a very freeing feeling."
One 2020 project that allowed Gomez to express herself in the company of accomplished women was her collaboration with BLACKPINK on their song "Ice Cream." Gomez said, "I just love them and their energy. We had a lot of fun together but sadly because of the virus we weren’t able to do anything in person. I had met Jisoo and Rosé at a fashion show a couple of years ago but I can’t wait to meet the other girls in person one day." She also praised her bright, summer-y music video with the group. "Shooting the music video was a lot of fun," Gomez said. "My videos tend to be a bit moody and they are known for their colorful and fun videos and it was exciting for me to step into their world."
