At a press conference on January 20, Hitoshi Kuninaka, director of JAXA's Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, evaluated the successful landing of the small lunar landing demonstrator ``SLIM'' on the moon as a ``barely passing score of 60.''
SLIM became Japan's first successful landing on the moon, and the fifth country in the world to do so, following the former Soviet Union, the United States, China, and India. Furthermore, two ultra-compact probes, LEV-1 and LEV-2, were successfully deployed.
However, the company gave a harsh assessment, taking into account the problems that had arisen, such as the solar panels not generating electricity after landing, and Kuninaka's position as the "director."
