In the second half of November, the first official biography of the "queen of quadruple jumps" Alexandra Trusova will be released - 240 pages of stories from the life of an athlete that you have not heard of. Sport24, together with the publishing house Bombora, publishes excerpts from the book. Further in the text - quotes from Sasha's parents, the author of the book, the first coach of Trusova and the figure skater herself.
Early debut in sports
Vyacheslav Trusov, Sasha's father:
“Already in two or three years it became clear that the child should be sent to sports. Otherwise, without the discharge of this energy and perseverance for peaceful purposes, it will be very difficult for us in ordinary life. Of course, then she was very small and would not have been taken to any sports section. I worked with my daughter myself: I ran crosses, taught me to push up from the floor and took me to the gym for training, where Sasha quickly learned to climb a rope and hang on a Swedish wall.
Of course, the attention of both athletes and coaches to this stubborn little girl with a pigtail was ensured. The guys said that the girl was born for sports, and gave advice on what kind to give. Maybe in artistic gymnastics or martial arts?
They joked that Sasha, due to his character and endurance, will be able to achieve success in any discipline, even in basketball - he will simply turn on the “achieve at all costs” mode, learn to jump above everyone else, and this compensates for his small growth.
Vyacheslav Trusov:
“She came to the rink in a good mood. Not being capricious, she did what they wanted from her. I repeated it dozens and hundreds of times. I worked for the result - until it works. When it worked out, Sasha put a tick in her head and walked on.
She had the excitement and interest to do the most difficult thing. The more difficult the task was, the more the child's eyes shone. And most importantly, she was not afraid of anything - she mastered skating with the same fearlessness with which she learned to slide down a steep hill on roller skates in the summer in Abkhazia.
Svetlana Trusova, Sasha's mother:
“The problem was that our house was on a mountain. And the descent to the sea was quite steep. Sasha immediately took this hill for a challenge. Will you be able to overcome your fears and learn how to skate down the slope? And on our very first walk, Sasha, who was still unsteady on the rollers, decided to try her hand. Thank God we managed to catch it. I remember the eyes of the neighbors watching this action from behind the fence. But, it seemed, the child did not care. And where we almost turned gray with fear, the daughter outwardly remained absolutely cold-blooded. Need to conquer the descent? Let's do it. This is the character from birth. It was useless to argue with Sasha, and to forbid too. There was nothing left to do but help her. "
Alexandra Trusova:
“I cannot say that I am fearless and desperate. It is not true! I am afraid of a lot of things: flying airplanes, riding extreme attractions in amusement parks.
I'm not afraid to skate and fall on the ice. Because everything here depends only on you. I feel every muscle in my body, I know what to do. And with attractions or airplanes - little depends on you. What if the tower breaks down or the plane is faulty? And you won't run away anywhere, and the ability to fall on the ice will definitely not come in handy. "
Elena Zotova, author of the book:
“On the first day of the competition, the short program was run almost in a fog.
But the support of the audience, courage worked better than antipyretic pills. Sasha was going to the free program not just with the desire to skate, but with the intention of performing the lutz in four turns. Just because I didn't want to go the easy way.
Even the first coach Olga Shevtsova noticed this girl's unique quality - to be as collected as possible at the right moment, discarding everything secondary, and to concentrate on the task. And once again this quality was fully expressed. In Yerevan, Sasha did the impossible. She, despite feeling unwell, inserted a quadruple lutz into the program and jumped it to positive marks. It was the first ever quadruple lutz in women's single skating - performed by a girl with a cold at an altitude of a thousand meters above sea level only on willpower, an iron character and a great desire to become the first.
But the final and most important competition of the season - the World Junior Championship - put everything in its place. It was there, in Sofia, that Alexandra managed to cleanly perform a quad for the first time this season. And not one, but two at once! And different!
