LONDON Current Affairs: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on the 10th that it has concluded its hearing on the doping issue of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.
After going for 3 days in September, it reopened on the 9th of this month. The parties have finished their closing arguments. A ruling is expected to be made by the end of January next year.
During last year's Beijing Olympics, it was discovered that a banned substance was detected in a sample taken from Valieva at the Russian Championships in December 2021. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency ruled that the athlete was not at fault and only disqualified him for his performance in the championship, but the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is calling for a four-year suspension.
