She knew what was good for her. Selena Gomez reluctantly opened up to GQ in its May 2016 issue about her lupus diagnosis and why she subsequently went to rehab in 2014. The writer, Zach Baron, lightly approached the topic of rehab, and Gomez immediately replied: "No, no, no, no, no." Baron writes that Gomez expressed "frustration and disgust" and reflected for a "long" time before giving him a detailed response. "First off, this is something that everyone always wants to fixate on," the "Same Old Love" singer, 23, reflected. "I got diagnosed with lupus. My mom had a very public miscarriage. So I had to cancel my tour. I needed time to just be OK." (Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey, suffered a miscarriage in late 2011, prompting the star to pull the plug on several holiday concerts at the time.)

Selena Gomez insists she has no regrets. No regrets about having been cast in the spotlight for more than half her life and ever since she was just 10-years-old. "I chose this," the now 23-year-old "Hands to Myself" singer recently told GQ magazine. "So I'm not gonna sit here and say, 'Oh, my God, poor me. I didn't have a normal childhood.' I don't give a f--k about that." Yet, at the same time, Gomez admits she has great sympathy for all those who have walked in her shoes. "We're easy targets," she said of young child stars. "Every single kid who was brought up like this is an easy target. It's disgusting, because it's interesting to grown adults that these kids go through weird things because they're figuring out, 'Do I like this? Do I love this?'" It's all taken its toll on Justin Bieber's on-again, off-again ex, who is rumored to have had a stint in rehab back in early 2014. Gomez attributes much of her struggles back then to having replaced her mother as her manager and having been diagnosed with the Lupus. "First off, this is something that everyone always wants to fixate on," she said. "I got diagnosed with lupus. My mom had a very public miscarriage. So I had to cancel my tour. I needed time to just be okay, and I was going through chemotherapy." That all now seems like ancient history to Gomez, who insists she simply wants to move on to bigger and brighter things. "I just have to be patient," she added. "It's slowly dissolving the older I get. And I just have to be patient and make great things with quality, from producing to singing to acting."

Because you're never too young to have your own series-length autobiographical drama — one of the newest projects in development from Lifetime, purveyors of schmaltzy made-for-TV movies and surprisingly good TV series, is a scripted series based on the life story of Selena Gomez. Gomez will executive-produce the series, which follows her rise to fame as a Disney Channel actress-turned-pop star — following in the steps of Nicki Minaj, who's currently producing a comedy about her childhood on Freeform (formerly ABC Family). Kevin Spacey also signed on to executive-produce. Now, the real questions: Which lucky actress will get to play Gomez, and who will portray the many other young celebs she's grown up with over the years, from her Disney days (Miley Cyrus, Zac Efron, the Jonas Brothers) through her #squad membership (Taylor Swift, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner)? And how will the series dramatize the greatest romance of the 21st century, the millennial generation's Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor: Jelena?

Selena Gomez might be BFFs with Taylor Swift, but it’s her friendship with Jennifer Aniston that’s got us saying #squadgoals. The 23-year-old has shared her love for the Friends alum on Instagram in the past, posting pics of them cozying up together. In February Selena gave the 47-year-old a birthday shoutout on Instagram: “A little tb and a happy birthday to one of the kindest people I know AND someone who has inspired me for years!” she captioned the shot. When The Insider With Yahoo caught up with the singer to talk about her upcoming Revival World Tour and her partnership with Coca-Cola, she couldn’t help but dish about her famous gal pal. “She’s very sweet, she’s extremely nurturing and she gets it,” Selena said. “She’s been such an idol in my life since as early as I can remember so I think it’s cool to see how well she handled herself and I think it’s amazing.”
