Miley Cyrus has said she believes that the coronavirus crisis has caused more division within society while stressing the importance of the US presidential election.
The pop star, who is set to release her new album ‘Plastic Hearts’ this month, appeared on the Scandinavian chat show Skavlan earlier this week when she was asked whether she agreed with Madonna’s view that COVID was a “great equaliser”.
“I don’t agree with that,” Cyrus replied. “I think that we’ve seen more divide recently than I have in my lifeline, just because we are really understanding the division between race and wealth, and that wealth and health can actually be the same thing.
“I think that’s unfathomably wrong and that is why our election is so important. So no, I don’t believe Covid has been an equaliser in any way.”
You can watch the full interview above.
In the run-up to ‘Plastic Hearts’ (out November 27), Cyrus has shared lead single ‘Midnight Sky’ as well as various rock-orientated covers, including The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’, The Cure‘s ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’ and Eagles‘ ‘Take It To The Limit’.

It’s the dead of night (well, depending on your time zone, it is), the perfect hour for a “Midnight Sky.” Miley Cyrus just dropped a new remix of her recent track tonight, featuring Stevie Nicks by way of Nicks’s own eternal 1981 bop “Edge of Seventeen,” which the remix not so much heavily samples, as joins forces with.
Given the similarities between the songs, Cyrus had, in fact, reached out to the Fleetwood Mac singer to get her okay before its release. “I actually had this song blessed by Stevie Nicks, because there is a kind of a nod to ‘Edge of Seventeen’ in this song,” she explained on the Zach Sang Show in August, as Harper’s Bazaar points out. “So, I actually reached out to her directly about, ‘this song, it has your spirit, your magic.’ I actually wrote this whole kind of message about, you know, ‘the kind of artist I want to be is the kind of artist that you’ve been for me, like I just hope that I can be that for other people.’ When I’ve felt lonely, Stevie Nicks has been there for me, whether she’s known it or not.”
Is it a good remix? Well, can any song that incorporates the nasty little guitar riff from “Edge of Seventeen” ever truly bad? We’ll let you be the judge, once you hear the call of these nightbirds singin’.

Ariana Grande is in a strong position to retain top spot on the U.K. singles chart, though Miley Cyrus could change all that.
Grande’s “Positions” holds at No. 1 while Miley’s “Midnight Sky” rises to No. 2 on the Official Chart: First Look, which tracks the most popular singles after the first 48 hours of sales and streams.
“Midnight Sky” is turbo-charged by a new cut which samples Stevie Nicks’ classic hit "Edge of Seventeen" and features new vocals from the Fleetwood Mac legend.
Little Mix are targeting their tenth Top 5 single with “Sweet Melody,” which vaults 12-4 following the release of Confetti, the girl group’s sixth studio album.
The highest new entries on the chart blast belong to Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue, with “Say Something” new at No. 16 and “Magic” at No. 19. Both tracks appear on Kylie’s 15th and latest album Disco, which dropped last Friday (Nov. 6).
